so for those of you that are still waiting to receive any interviews, what are your plans/expectations?

I am still hoping for at least an interview...what do you guys think my chances are this late?
13th batch: oGPA 3.44, sGPA 3.21, BCP 3.26; 22AA/21TS/20PA/23RC
Have great letters of rec, but weak ECs...90+ hours of shadowing and 100+ hours of volunteering, about 150 now, but only ~100 in my application (all dental related).

With the combination of a late batch, subpar GPA and weak ECs, is there any hope?

Who else is still out there? I know that I am not the only one...

How late were you? I'm thinking a few interviews will roll in. Scores are good. ECs aren't much of a factor (not saying they aren't important). GPA, not a deal breaker.

I'd polish up your dress shoes, invites will be coming.

13th batch...in retrospect, I needed to apply more broadly to net interviews this late, but alas, hindsight is 20/20. I only applied to OHSU, UoP, Creighton, Colorado, Tufts, BU, and Columbia, but I thought I was at least a little competitive everywhere but Columbia.

Anyone have any guesses where BU and Tufts are in terms of their interviews? I have heard that Tufts was pretty late to give out interviews, but I know they have given a significant amount out already...

Hi isittoolate,

If you're willing to roll the dice more than once, then I'd recommend sending your app to some more schools now. Some schools continue to review applications up until their deadline and from reading some posts on sdn, some schools admit on a rolling admissions. I'd consider it, because it beats waiting for the next cycle to apply and waiting for Fall '14 to come around, that's 2 years out. Good luck.

What's your residency? If you've got a few bucks, I'd consider slapping on another school or two.

Our stats are very similar. I'm 16th batch and have had one interview at UDM, but I haven't heard back from the rest. As others have already said, it wouldn't be a bad idea to apply to a few more schools, but I think you have a pretty good chance at OHSU.

OHSU is my top choice as I am an Oregon resident. It is an interesting idea to add more schools at this point, I guess for it to be a sound investment it would need to be: 1.) somewhere that I would be a competitive applicant 2.) somewhere that most likely still has spots left 3.) friendly to OOS applicants, so probably stuck with private schools.

Is there anywhere that would fit these criteria? NYU? Either of the Westerns? Marquette?

BTW, glad to hear that late applicants are getting interviews, congrats man! I hope it went well. I think I have pretty good chances at OHSU, but I think that they must place more emphasis on GPA than DAT according to their averages (oGPA 3.65 and sGPA 3.58 with only a 19.12AA).

GL to all late applicants, were in this together haha

when am I allowed to give up on this cycle? all my friends, families and teachers are all very optimistic that I will get interviews, but I know they are just trying to be supportive...

How do I tell my parents that I will probably not get in this cycle?

You're allowed to give up on the cycle probably in mid-April. If no interviews have come by then, THEN you're allowed to start thinking about re-submitting a few months later in June. 🙂

I think you have a good chance. Applying late definitely hurts but if you keep up your EC and apply early next cycle, I think you'll get in somewhere (if not this cycle). I personally think EC is very important. I'm a reapplicant and I went from receiving 1 interview to 10...after I strengthened my EC. And I have a similar stat as you. Good luck! Hope you land some interviews(&get in)!

who out there is still waiting? someone inspire hope or tell me to give up haha
