Ok so I have applied to 44 programs and so far I still don't have any interviews. (With the exception of the 2 programs in which I am going to do a 4 wk PM&R clinical elective). Should I start to sweat it? What date should be considered the "final" deadline, after which programs most probably won't offer you an interview? I would also appreciate some encouragement from other applicants who are in the same current situation...

I am starting to get a little concerned myself. I applied to 10 programs and I only have to interviews set up. I was really late getting my applications out, but I am still starting to get worried. I applied to mostly east coast programs including the three VA programs, OSU, UNC, Indiana, U of M, Spaulding, LSU, and UAB. I have an interview at OSU on Dec 30 and EVMS on Dec 10. I hope we aren't alone and it isn't anything to worry about for now. Good luck!

Take care

So this is like med school applications all over? Apply everywhere, hope for an interview, maybe get waitlisted...? greaaaaaaat!!! :scared:

1. Have you been checking for any messages at the ERAS website? I think they go to email automatically, but check and make sure.
2. Go over all of your selected programs with a fine toothed comb and make sure that you have actually assigned everything. I wrote a PS, didn't assign it and never heard back from a program I was interested in. I went back over the app, sent it in and got an interview offer the next day.
3. Call or email some of your programs and make sure they are not wiating on anything for you.

Good luck.

I can sympathize with you with the no interview response. Are you an IMG? I am very frustrated reading about all of the interviews that all of these other folks are getting. I graduated salutorian of class of 300, got 227 on Part I, and have 15 years as a practicing chiropractor and still have not heard anything back. Do you have to go to a US school to get an interview?

I am very frustrated today and have never written a letter that even sounds like sour grapes but today may be a new leaf. I only applied to 7 programs trying to make it on merit alone and not who I know. Now I fear it is too late to apply to more programs....foolish I guess.

Good luck to you and I know that it is no consolation but at least you know you are not alone.

Hang in there.

Yeah - not sure if it's too late but would increase the number of applications - 7 is LOW - even for US grads.

PM&R is getting increasingly competitive as people gravitate towards "lifestyle" specialties - It most likely has gotten more difficult for IMG/FMGs in the past years. Board scores and grades are only part of the equation - "who you know" actually could play a part - especially in forms of letters of recommendations, etc.

If it is too late to add applications, I would try to secure a prelim medicine spot somewhere so you can look for PGY2 positions in PM&R - OR scramble - there were a few positions in PM&R left last year...

i would send out some more applications, it can't hurt. 7 is definitely a low number, even for US med school grads. also, many people cancel interviews at the end of the season, so there is still hope. good luck.

Thank you for the rseponses. I sent in 23 more applications...I hope it is not too late.
