No interviews...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think you definitely have a chance. I'm not sure about all of the schools that you have applied to but NYU, BU, and Tufts have a good amount of post dec interviews.

Just wondering, what are your QR and OC scores on the DAT. They're listed as zeroes on your predents page.

Maybe that's why he got no interviews 😀

I was wondering that too

When did you write the DATs and were your letters sent in by late July as well?

Oh, I know nothing about the Canadian DAT

So I just wanted to bump this topic back up to the top

I'm still stuck at no interviews and I'm starting to get a little concerned.

To answer some of the questions in the thread, yes I am a Canadian applicant and the Canadian DAT does not have the OC and QR sections (hence 0s). If it doesn't work out for me this cycle I may take the American DAT...

I haven't taken english yet but I had it listed in my application as planned courses in the summer of 2010 before school starts in Aug-Sept (think this might be the issue?)

Any advice on what to improve on the next cycle would definitely be helpful

Hey,

I'm at McMaster too and applied to similar schools. Did you write the DAT this November (09), cos the scores for that arrived in Dec, which is late for the dental schools. Other than that, your GPA and ECs are sufficient as my GPA is similar and I interviewed at NYU, who are still sending out interview invites so don't give up!

Good Luck!

Hi

I applied around the end of July this cycle and have submitted everything to 7 schools. I've not heard from any of the schools about a rejection (except for Case Western) or interview so I was wondering if I still had a chance?
.

I think thats half your problem..^^^^

and the other half of your problem might be that you didnt take the american DAT, only because schools will accept the cDAT doesnt mean they dont prefer the american one...

probably not that big of a deal

but the OP's dat scores could be a bit higher and writing the cdn dat is bad for your application since you write the exam so late compared to all other applicants.

I'm sure ontario has prometric centers where you could write the american dat without having to drive down south

my recommendation is to write the american one if needed(hopefully not!).
the american dat is better because you get 10 extra minutes for the reading comprehension part and no chalk carving(some ppl love it, some ppl hate it). also it's more convenient because you can always reschedule the exam if you don't feel ready yet.

your DAT scores are a bit low considering your GPA is not too shabby. Maybe you should rewrite the DAt and increase those scores a bit? I think that might help

Thanks for the fast replies! I appreciate everyone's advice.

I actually wrote the Canadian Dat in Feburary 2009 so my scores were sent in on time. I do agree they're a bit on the low side and I'll probably end up writing the American one at the prometric centre in Toronto.

Anyone that's written the Canadian and American DAT comment on the difficulty of each?

exactly the same.

as mentioned, you get 10 more min for the reading in the US one.

organic portion wasn't too bad.
quantitative reasoning sucks not because it's hard but because a lot of ppl tend to run out of time.

What about scoring? I know that the Canadian DAT scores are given based on how well you did compared to everyone else that took it at the same time. Is this the case for the American DAT as well?

the scoring is basically the same except they have a preset score depending on the test you end up writing and the number of correct responses you have. as for percentiles, just like the cdat, the usdat fluctuates as well depending on which test you write.
