I have seen a few people say this, but thought a thread might help. I am leaving the country for 2 weeks in mid-August, and I was wondering how this might impact secondaries and or (if I'm lucky enough to get them...yah right :scared: ) interviews. Is it a good idea to inform schools, or just cross my fingers? I probably won't be contactable either 🙁 during that time.
Thanks in advance for any ideas

i would just leave and wouldn't really care about telling them since its only two weeks...you might come back and find the mailbox full, or you might just come back and find it empty. Assume you get a full mailbox on the first day you leave, so they sit in there for two whole weeks, your still fine🙂
best of luck...

Isn't it a negative to get an interview and then wait potentially 2 weeks to respond? Can you have your email forwarded? Or you could establish a special hotmail account and check it when your overseas. With this option, you would have to change your AMCAS contact info.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I think people get paranoid, like, "I recieved my interview on Friday at 2:00 PM and it's already 2:01 PM and I haven't responded and they must think I don't want the interview!!!!! NEEAAARRRRGHHH!!" They handle a lot of interviews and send out a lot of letters. As long as they hear back from you either way (yea or nay) with time to spare (i.e., not on the day of the interview) you should be fine. Forwarding your mail is MORE dangerous because if it misses you, you're up the creek. The brown creek.

to the op:

just go ahead and leave... chances are you won't receive any interview invites before late august anyway. (even thats really early).

have fun... and if you're worried about missing something, go get a stamp made with your signature and find someone you trust to be your proxy while you are gone. (if you are able to speak with them via telephone).

I went away for two weeks much later in the application cycle last year. The day I left I got an interview invite. I didn't respond for over a week because I didn't have email access. When I did respond I explained the situation and they were very nice about it. They just said no problem and scheduled my interview a few weeks later. I was a little nervous though because it was my top choice and a UC school, in the end I got accepted there. So don't worry about it, the schools will understand, it is summer and everyone deserves to have some fun. Have a great trip all those secondaries/interviews will be there when you return.

Thanks all for your tips. Much, much appreciated 👍
