Apply to more now. There's nothing to be gained from sitting out a year if you can possibly avoid it. It's a disadvantage to apply this late compared to applying back in sept but its still worth a try in my view.

Anyway... I'd suggest checking the application deadlines at programs you'd like to apply and as long as the deadline hasn't passed it's worth a shot. There might be places that would give you a shot still - if not now, maybe in January when many people end up canceling some interviews.
