Hello,

I am new to the forums and just had a quick question. I was wondering what you guys think regarding online degrees. Further, ones without a well known name.

For example, I just graduated from AIU Online (American Intercontinental University). I found out about them because they are a sister school to a local university. It was just as difficult and even more difficult in some areas than traditional schooling.

They are accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

What do you guys think? Will committees look down on my degree? I mean no, its not a Harvard degree but it IS legit.

Ideas?

I wouldn't say that AIU is a no-name degree considering that they are accredited. I too have gone to this school and received my Masters of Information Technology. As for difficult, I would say it was difficult because my time management was bad but after my second month I adjusted completely. It took a lot of discipline to sit myself down and read/study my assignments. In the end I finished and I have no regrets taking this online course.

If you look at it this way many schools are following this path and creating classes that will based online (I could name several schools if you want). Could it be the wave of the future, perhaps? Overall, I can't say that the adcoms will look down on this degree but traditionally care that students take their courses at a 4-year University or a post-bacc program (to sit in class and do the work).
Remember in med school there are no online classes.

If you know what med schools you want to attend call the advisor and see what he/she has to say.

I hope this helps.
