I have been reading all of these threads, seeing so many get interview notifications, and others get letters of rejection. I have resorted to checking my mail box since no e-mails have arrived, but that also is empty....

The suspense is killing me!
Has anyone else heard NOTHING at all, either way?

Yep. The waiting is terribly painful. However, I get so anxious when I think about how CSU will be notifying regular pool applicants in only two weeks...I'm not sure I want to know yet! I don't know which is worse. It's terribly conflicting.

I'm in the CSU DVM/PhD rejecto club too, but now one of my other schools (Penn) has started interview invites and then Cornell in Jan and then Davis in Feb.

...at least they're all spread out.... 😴

I agree, the suspense is killing me too. My dad said to me just a few min ago "No news is good news." Seems like it's easy to send out rejections (I already have 1 of the 7 schools I applied to), but selecting students for interviews takes some time. Sit tight.

I also have heard nothing either way. I am definitely getting impatient, especially since the doctors I work with keep asking me if I've heard. They're not quite as anxious as I am but it's kind of nice to know that they're also waiting in suspense. While I'm glad that I haven't received any rejections yet, I'd kind of rather just know.

What do you mean by late? Did you miss the deadline?

I applied but I'm in state and they won't start reviewing until Feb 1st (our deadline for LOR's and transcripts). The actual app was due Nov 1st and I never received confirmation either so I called to make sure since I submitted in September and got an email telling me they only send out notifications for deficiencies. Just got an email a few weeks ago letting me know which LOR's haven't been received yet but that's it.

On a side note it's really annoying they do LOR's via snail mail...it's 2009 and email is so much easier/convenient. One of my evaluators had to have the darn packet resent twice b/c it kept getting lost in the mail.

The website says this about interviews:
The Committee usually interviews non-resident applicants in early January and Missouri applicants from February through late March. Applicants are notified of their interview appointment during this time period.
The interview is required and intended to clarify and supplement the written application.

Me too! I applied to Penn, Tufts, Cornell, and two Scotland schools...Glasgow is the ONLY place I have heard from.

The more times people ask me if I've heard anything, the more I just want to break things. I am losing my mind!

I've noticed since applying, I have been stalking SDN like a lion waiting for it's next meal. I made a promise to myself that WHEN (not if) infact I do get accepted to an AVMA school, I'll make a donation to SDN. (Therefore future obsessed pre-vets can stalk this forum)

I agree, this has been a tremendous resource. I would have been completely lost without it. When people ask me about the pre-vet advising at my school (my regular advisors know almost nothing about vet school), I tell them that I saw one once but I'm doing just fine doing my own research online.

BTW, I haven't gotten anything either, and some of my schools have already started sending out invites. I just know that I'm going to be in the big fat REJECT pile. 🙁

I just called them - apparently they had so many applications that they split applications up by GPA and only looked through the top stack - they didn't even look at anyone's application who wasn't in that top stack... that stinks :/

WHAT?!?!?! are u serious? i mean, why would they even admit that they only looked at the top stack? I can understand sorting thru all the apps by gpa/gre (even tho it sucks) but i just can't believe they would not even look at half the applications at all. odd

i mean, they could have spent the extra 2-4 weeks reviewing apps (like almost every other school) if they felt they had too many apps to make decisions in mid nov.

That's crazy and goes against what they claim to be their admission evals. Online it says that GPA is only about 30% of the decision (20% cum, 10% last 45) and the other factors like the interview and experience account for the majority.

I really hope they don't use that system for in state kids! I'm in state and it's the only school I applied to this round.

I'm kind of kicking myself about my Penn app...I put down equine as first choice, which I guess would potentially lump me into the New Bolton interview group...which is still 2 months away! Ahhh! I can't take the waiting! I read CSU's OOS statistics and laughed. Literally. What am I to do? I'm an anxious wreck...

PS-Sorry to those Missouri folks with less-than-stellar GPAs but still kick-butt apps! That really doesn't seem fair at all...

Are you ^%$*ing kidding me?! NOW I definitely regret applying to that school. WTF?! There's so many things wrong with that I don't even know how to begin. First of all, there god damn supplemental is LONG AS HELL! For no reason, half the crap they ask for is already asked in the VMCAS. Second, like one of you just mentioned their percentage breakdown doesn't indicate that they rely heavily on GPA/GRE (hence why I APPLIED!). Lastly, that's just messed up. We spend a lot of money and time to apply to these schools. They should at least have the damn decency to look at EVERYONE. I part of me hopes this is a bald face lie. I am NEVER EVER applying there again. Even if they offered me a spot to go there I wouldn't. Stupid school. Ugghhh, I'm so incensed. 😡

no reason to be bitter about it now. i know it sucks b/c of the time we put into that long ass supplemental and all the money we shelled out. but i'm trying to just think of it as "well i wasn't meant to go to that school..."


hopefully i'll get in somewhere, and if not, i'm definitely going to re-evaluate the schools i apply to next year based on knowledge gained from this cycle. good luck to those of you with other schools to hear from in these later months.

That's what Ms. Seay told me when I called - there was an stack with higher GPA's and that's the stack they looked at because they had "so many applications this year"

It does suck - I was really into that school :/

what are they defining as "high" GPAs because i wouldn't consider myself in that category and i also have a below average GRE score.. so the notion that they ONLY looked at grades and i got an interview would SHOCK me

just curious what you consider "below avg". there are people on SDN that complain about their 3.5 GPA and 1200 GRE. Even an upper 1100 GRE is still avg for at least half of the schools

well my science and last 45 hours are below i believe.. i feel like some people may have higher stats than i do that didnt get an interview.. idk i got a lot of experience though and i would hope they didnt just pick people on grades that would be completely unfair.. who knows how they decide stuff over there lol

yep, i am. my mom wants me to go to law school and anything other than that is considered to be not successful or good enough. so i don't talk about the process with my mom, and she doesn't understand how hard it is to get in and that most applicants apply 2 or more cycles. so she thinks that if i don't get in this year, then it's a sign... lol

My father is definitely not supportive in my decision. I told him I wanted to go to veterinary school before I graduated high school and he flat out said "You aren't smart enough. Go to nursing school." So I did for a year and then realized that I would never be happy unless I tried. Now that I finished applying my dad is a bit more supportive... My dad would rather me go to dental school like him and take over his business! C'est la vie.

That's horrible! 😱 My dad doesn't get the whole animal thing at all, but he's very supportive of me and thrilled whenever I do well. My mom at first wanted me to go to med school instead. She wasn't a PITA about it, just kept up with the not-so-subtle hints. But she's really come around as she's seen how excited I get after my various vet experiences and how bored I was with shadowing human doctors. 🙂

It's been very difficult for me to get support from my family and friends. I'm fairly sure my mother is supportive of my decision to try and become a veterinarian, but it hasn't been easy to get my father "on board" with my decision. While I have always had a deep interest in the outdoors, animals, science and medicine...and I have worked at a veterinary clinic since I was 15 ( I am now 23)...people were both surprised and upset that I chose the veterinary route.

I really do love medicine, both human and veterinary...and when I stated that I was thinking about medical school several years ago in college, I guess got my family's hopes up. Ever since a year and a half ago, when I said I was definitely applying to vet schools, I feel I lost a lot of respect from people, especially by those that don't understand the veterinary profession. Whenever I see my extended family, they ask me when I am going to take the MCAT or actually ask me what medical school I want to go to next year( as if I would actually have a real choice...you go where you get in, if you get in anywhere). My father just told me yesterday that he can't understand why anyone would want to be a vet, and keeps telling everyone that I applied to vet schools because I couldn't get into med school. ( I never applied to med school, and even though med school may be a possibility in my future, I want to combine all my interests and passions...that is why I chose vet med...and it upsets me when he says these things).

I've decided that its no use trying to get people to understand my decision. I have tried to educate them many times about veterinary medicine, my plans, and what it takes to become a veterinarian...nothing really seems to stick. I have even felt some stigma from my friends...and it hasn't been until recently that one stated he was proud of my drive and accomplishments and has full confidence in my abilities to become the medical practitioner I truly desire.

Well at my Ohio State interview...they had an orientation and a panel of students answered our questions. There were about 8 students, and 6 of the students had applied more than once (4 twice and 2 three times). Don't get discouraged if you don't get in the first time!! You can still make it happen.

I'm having the opposite problem of supportive. My family is SURE I'm going to get in. They tell me to stop worrying and relax. They forget that top of the class in high school, good job in college-everyone else I'm applying with is just like that. I'm being realistic-there is a HUGE chance I won't get to do the thing I've wanted to do my whole life-at least not in the order I want. I WILL go to vet school, I just might not get in this year. And it will be hard to sleep at night until I do. My grandfather has been pushing MD forever, though, but why would I want to do that? I can't do their surgeries in a barn...

Ditto, August! I feel like I'm in the same situation. I don't think they fully grasp how competitive it is to get into vet school. I tried to bring up a back-up plan the other day and the only response I got was "Oh, you'll get into vet school." Thank you, family, but I am also just trying to plan realistically.

My family too! My mom's all asking me what my top picks are, which I don't even want to discuss unless I get in somewhere. Goodness knows even if I get in somewhere, I might not even have a choice of schools!

Yeah I feel like I share my dream of vet school with everyone-even if inappropriate-just becuase it's on my mind ALL THE TIME. And everyone thinks I'm getting in. My optometrist, my dentist, real live vets, people at the dining commons....Ok, it's wierd, but talking about the weather is just boring and they're all rooting for me!

But let's be realistic-the vet schools aren't exactly knocking on my door yet. And meeting requirements doesn't mean you're in, or get an interview. There are way more deserving and capable people than there are spaces. If a school wiped out the top 100 applicants they could still fill the class with stellar applicants. WE ALL KNOW THIS. It's just hard for people not enveloped in the process to understand that vets are real doctors and that we should feel honored for even interviews. This means SOMEONE thought we had the potential to be a vet. And not the someone who happens to be walking through the hall that I see and talk with, just someone different with the power to make the decisions. And it's hard to have 30 people say "Don't worry, you'll get in" when there are just 5 teams of people telling me I won't. It is reassuring that a lot of people feel like they are in the same boat I am.

OMG!!!! I know EXACTLY how you feel. I keep getting the, "you're so gifted and they'll see that" speech. "no one wants this more than you" well, to be honest most people that apply are gifted and all want it just as bad as I do so shut up!! This is my second time applying and I've heard some positive news but I still don't know!
