Non-science LOR writer backed out last minute. I have literally 0 other options since I went to a UC and all of the other non-science classes I took were way back in freshman year and each one had a class size of about 700 students.
I have an MD LOR and 2 science LOR's currently.
Any advice as to how to proceed? Is it realistic for me to be able to still submit apps this cycle and apply to a good enough amount of schools that will accept an MD LOR in place of the non-science LOR?
Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Interested in this as well.

1) what MD LORs do you have and why? These are by no means non-science, academic LORs
2) if these are shadow only LORs without anything else, they carry little to no impact on an adcom and can be seen as trying to coverup the lack nonscience
3) check each school's web site for specific letter requirements as many have relaxed the requirement
4) get the letter from the freshman prof. Better a letter with little say but grade so you can apply over no letter which means you cant apply

1) Just one from an orthopedic surgeon I've been working for as an MA for 1 yr now.
2) It's not a shadow. It's a strong LOR.
3) Will do!
4) I can't. None of them will write the LOR. They all delineated that when the class began, using the 700 students as their excuse. Trust me, I'd get a non-science LOR if I could but I can't.

Thanks for your help!

I feel like lack of non science letter wouldn't break your app. Letters at the end of the day are usually inflated so much for each person, I wonder how much weight they're truly given. When I went on residency interviews one interviewer told me "read your letters, talked about how amazing you are/walked on water. Cool story." Lol.

How many schools that you're applying to has this specific requirement?

I'm in virtually the same position as you so I made a list of all the schools I'm interested in and their letter req's (9/46 say they want non science). Once I get my MCAT score my plan was to contact any of those 9 I'm competitive for and ask if they'd consider me with an additional science or a character letter instead. If not, then so be it, literally nothing we can do about it.
