What are the benefits of attaining an MD from HST as opposed to other medical schools (i.e. the NP at Harvard, UCSF, Stanford, UCLA, etc)?
I am interested in doing research during medical school, and likely as a physician, but I am not interested in getting a PhD because of the extra years of schooling. How can I justify to HST that I belong at their school if I want to do research in the future but I don't want a PhD. I have 3 years of extensive research as an undergrad and a few publications on my belt, so I am sure some medical schools will ask me why I am not pursuing a joint MD/PhD program. How can I best answer these schools?

Thank you for all reading. Hopefully, some of you will understand or share my position.

I think HST is for people who are more research minded and are willing to sacrifice some early clinical experience and "art of medicine" coursework for a rigorous biomed experience. The courses provide a greater understanding of science and the body, the research resources are unparalleled and the class size is teeny. If this appeals to you, I'd say harp on why you think these points are important and what you would get out of it. Don't be intimidated by not being md/phd. They offer the straight md program for a reason, after all.

HST is more research oriented, actually if you look up several of the HST alums many do not practice medicine, they are 100% dedicated to research.

Many HST interviewees will be in the same position as you are so I don't think that's a huge conflict. If they ask you why not MD/PhD, you could say that you aren't sure about the PhD part although its something that you will consider while in med school. But anyhow, when I interviewed at HST, my interviewers were satisfied simply with the fact that I did not apply to new pathway.

MDs become Drs, PhDs become researchers. But I have heard that most MD-PhD graduates go on to be hospital/academic administrators. I that true?
