As impossible as these types of questions are to answer.....

As someone who is recently strongly considering anesthesia (always kind of but not strongly interested until recently) what is a good number of programs to apply to. I have read that 10 interviews is a good # but how many programs are needed to obtain that.

My board scores are above average, no research, 3 years spent as an anesthesia assistant, non AOA, some honors clinical rotations, basically non-significant extracurricular activities (unless drinking and playing pool are extracurriculars).

Oh, I would prefer to stay West Coast (cali/Wash)..which I understand is highly competitive. I've applied to 10 West Coast programs so far and am thinking of adding 10 more east coast programs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. PM me or just add to the thread. Thanks.

If you are getting worried b/c you have not heard from alot of the Cali programs dont sweat too much b/c neither have I. I have only heard from UCLA, UCLA-Harbor and Loma Linda.

I had applied to 20 programs to get only three interviews last year. I had applied very late too. The average number of programs people had applied to I had heard last year was 20 to get about 10-15 interviews. Good luck with your interviews.

Thanks all. Actually my apps just went out yesterday, but I was I may send out another bunch today. 15-20 apps sounds about right for the final total.
