I took the MCAT once several years ago, preparing for the 2nd one in Spring 2011. I wonder how many times MAX is recommended? Do schools take the latest, best, or averaged MCAT score(s) ? Thanks.

most schools take most recent scores, a few take selected best sections from each test, but I would aim for your 2nd time as your last time.

Do not take it more than twice.

Some schools average scores. Most take the latest. Do NOT let your score go down.

good luck

I took the MCAT twice in the late 90s (yes, on paper - before they invented computers). And then of course I took it Spring of last year, before I applied.

I can only speak for me personally, but it is as if I never took those previous MCATs because they were so old. I don't think anyone ever questioned me about the total number.

For you, since your original score is old, only the newest score will matter (it will be weighted much more heavily.) Only take it once more and do your best. How many times do you think medical schools want you to take USMLE Step 1?

I know there are at least a couple of school that take the best score of the bunch, but most take the most recent one. The best idea is probably just to kill it the next time and be done with it. Good luck!

Twice is best....no more than three times.

I would recommend a 4th try only if you had a REALLY good reason.

With that said, I think the total number of times is overstated on here.

I think state schools care less.....It really is a school specific thing.
