Ok, the fact that no one responded, might be a hint, but I'll try just once more... any help would be great!

Does letting a school know you're interested in getting a combined degree have any consequences? I'm interested in getting an MD/MBA and I'm guessing that it's looked down on a lot by physicians, so I was wondering if it would be in my interest not to let them know beforehand (since I'll have to apply to most of the business schools separately once I'm there anyway).

And yes I know there are some schools where its mandatory to let them know if you're interested in getting a combined degree... but those aside, any advice?

No one probably posted because no one really knows. Honestly I don't think it probably makes a huge difference. *shrugs*

Why would it have any consequence? If a school has a combined degree program, then they're likely looking for students to be in it. It's not like, "Oh, he's interested in our combined MD/MBA program that we spent lots of resources and political capital on establishing?? Get 'im outta here!"

edit: I was commenting on programs which are set up to be combined, as opposed to just getting two degrees separately. In the case of getting a MBA after your MD outside of a program that's set up to be combined, it's kind of a toss up as to whether you tell them or not. You might be right - maybe some people won't agree with it.

you know what you could do? call/email someone at a school which you aren't interested in going to and ask their opinion...
and if no one posts on a thread, don't worry....these threads move so fast sometimes it's hard to keep up with them 🙂

im interested in pursuing health policy, so i might look towards a second degree, maybe law or business... but since i dont think my explicit interest in either degree will be beneficial for admissions, im not going to mention it. however, i did pick my school list thinking heavily about those schools whose other graduate programs were good as well (so i could apply later after my 1st or 2nd year).

I'm actually going to be doing an MD and an MBA. When I mentioned it to adcoms/interviewers they seemed interested and asked why I wanted to do it. If you don't give them a clear reason then they'll probably look down on it. Otherwise, I think most doctors would rather have a person with an MD managing hospitals then some MBA.

agree. if they have a specific program for you, then they want people to fill it up.
