It is pretty late in the cycle and I still have'nt heard from the schools I interviewed at so I was getting ready to reapply for next year.
I am thinking of applying to a masters program for this year. However, this program takes a little more than a year to complete. I was wondering if dental schools look down upon you if you do not complete the program before starting dental school. In other words is it okay if you quit midway to join dental school??? Does it make you look like a confused person or something??
Also does anyone know of any 1 year masters programs in southern california.. maybe in some of the calstates if possible???
thanx in advance...

OK, in idea this sounds great. But let me tell you that I don't think that having a masters really helped me get into dental school. I applied to 6 schools and only got into one. If you have a good GPA then I think you should concentrate on taking the DAT again (If you need to improve) and/or possibly take some higher level classes that you can put on your transcript. Also do something that will make you're application stand out from the rest. Shadowing is an obvious one, but something else that you can do in between all the other things you'll be doing. I think if you start a Masters you're tied down for a certain period of time, and it's a big deal. I think that what I suggested is probably better for you, but wait to see what other people think! Hope this helps

I'm accepted to a Master's program and will attend if I do not get into d-school this year. I will finish it and then reapply. I think that a Masters would help for a few reasons. If you have a poor or average GPA and do well in your grad classes, it shows inprovement, and also you would (hopefully) be an older/more mature applicant. I think that going through a master's before dental school shows alot of dedication and perserverance toward your goal. Just my two cents! 🙂

here is a link where you can check out some of the post-bacc and masters programs. many of these are geared to the premed but you can see if some of these programs cater to the predents as well.
