So I'll be applying to med schools in the 2019 cycle with a fairly avg GPA. By June 2019 I will have about 600 non-clinical volunteering. 700 clinical volunteering , 50 shadowing. I also have about 2000 plus hours of working in retail and as a nanny.
However, I have zero hours of research. How will this impact me? On MSAR it said that 70-90% of those accepted have research so I'm scared.

Are you still in school? (non-trads will likely be given more leeway) Any way you can get some research experience in the next year?

If I could, it wouldn't be more than a 100 hours, and with nothing to show for it. most likely in psychology. How does that work?

Try to get a paid research position so that you do not have to work in retail/babysit. Not only is it helpful for admissions but may help with the MCAT which does include research based topics/analysis/results.

No one will care what the research is in. The point of research on the application is to show you have the scholarly inquiry/critical thinking skills.
Despite what you may see on SDN, not everyone gets a publication out of research.

If it makes you feel any better, I only have about 75 typical research "lab" hours. Got three interviews this cycle. I also have about 200 hours of research for my thesis (and that was in business administration)

Research is not required. Volunteering in clinical and nonclinical settings is much more important and you got that covered. @gonnif can verify and expand on this further.
