I cannot believe this just happened to me...

so they mistimed our verbal section, a bunch of us went up to the proctor after the test and explained the situation and the proctor ADMITTED THAT IT WAS TIMED INCORRECTLY!!!! so i wrote the formal letter thing to aamc and in the letter i even wrote that the proctor admitted to mistiming the section.... well today i just got back a letter from aamc and they basically said that the proctor claims the time was kept correct and blah blah blah.😡

what can i do now? obviously they cant take our word over the proctor even tho the b**** is a liar.

i feel that 7 instead of a 9 (or a 6 instead of 8!) on the VR is going to just kill me in the admissions process. and now i cant attach the little letter explaining this. and i'm totally not going to take the test again and sacrafice all that time 2nd semester just because my b**** proctor cant keep time and is a complete liar.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry to hear that your proctor did that. This kind of stuff is so frustrating, in an already very stressful and frustrating process.

But wait until the 14th - maybe you got a 10 after all.

Gosh, I'm so sorry! That really suxs. Tons of people had problems with their procters (i know a lot of people were messing up b/c they couldn't have timers and there were a lot of people who got reported in our test center for odd things), but I know that in your case, your procter seems to be the absolute worst type. 🙁 Were there other people in your room that complained to the aamc?

Anyway, like Meowmix said, just wait for a week - you may be surprised - verbal was killer this year, and i think most people didn't finish and as for me, i was randomly guessing a lot. Sorry, I know my answer isn't helping. Just wait a week and keep your chin up!

yea others complained with me... we were all 100 percent certain the timing was off as we all kept time (i set my analog watch to noon at the start of each section)... but it's just so frustrating that admissions care so much about the test and if one little thing goes wrong, youre completely screwed... well i guess i'm learning that life's not fair.

i had a similar thing happen to me last year, though it wasn't with the time. i was seated in a row that was extremeley dark, and i could barely see! this on top of not sleeping the night before really sucked! my eyes kept burning/closing while i was reading. so i asked the proctor if i could move after i finished the first section, and i was told i could not b/c the tests would get out of order. well, i wrote to aamc and told them that they should get better lighting in the testing center and told them i was really frustrated that i wasn't allowed to move. they checked with the proctor, and that f*ing bitch told them that no one asked to move that day and that if someone had, they would have been allowed to move b/c the lighting in part of the room is really bad. wtf? i can't believe a proctor would lie like that.
if you know anyone else who had the same problem, ask them to write a letter too! if enough people write one, they will know something was up. i think they have the ability to flag your mcat score if something was weird at the testing center, so that schools can ask to find out what happened. they did not do this for me, but i imagine they would do it if enough people complained.
anyway, things worked out for me and hopefully they will work out for you too 🙂. your mcat score (as long as it's decent) will not break you if the rest of your app is solid.

2 things:

1. welcome to the real world: it's not fair
2. a timing error of under 15mins could not have made a 2 point difference. Worst case senario you lost 1 point.

dude... a timing error of under 15 minutes definitely could have made a 2 point difference. a 1 point difference may happen if you don't get to 1 question. if you don't get to read an entire passage, you could easily lose 2 points!

i think the mcat should be given more than twice a year to solve these kind of problems. it really sucks that if something went wrong one day, you will have to restudy for the damn test again 6 months down the road. i remember thinking "if i could just take it again tomorrow i would do so much better" 🙁.

dude,

15 mins is like 2 passages.

I say find the proctor and coat his nads with resin before dragging them thru 2 miles of broken glass.

Wow, these are some terrible stories. I had the nicest pair of gay guys as proctors in my room. Everything went smoothly, we got to have our timers........ no issues.

lubdubb,

i would if i could. unfortunately, aamc wouldnt give me the contact info of the proctors. =(

1. It is easy to say this when it didn't happen to you.
