Hey guys,
I was wondering how much this might hurt my chances if I don't have a science LOR. The science classes at my school are so huge that I haven't really been in to get to know a science professor well enough to where I felt comfortable asking for one. I'll have a letter from a psych professor, my research professor from Human Development, a letter from a doc I shadowed, one from my boss at work, and a pre-med committee letter. I've heard some schools don't even look past the committee letter so in this case it wouldn't really matter what other letters you had, is this true? Should I ask one of my science professors from last semester for a letter just in case? Thanks!

I THINK if you have the pre-med committee letter you should be all set. Check with each of the schools you will apply to.

Usually, a requirement to get a premed committee letter is to submit to the premed advisory department LOR's from science and non-science faculty, as well as other character letters. If that premed letter is an "official premed committee letter," then it will satisfy the requirements; this means that it is a composite letter that summarizes information from your individual LOR's and also includes your ranking in the school along with your stats. However, I would think that if an Adcom were to read it and see no information of how a science faculty member evaluated your candidacy for medical school, it may raise a red flag. On the other hand, if it is a typical committee letter, then it would not matter.
