I'm trying to register for the May 22 MCAT and there are no open seats within 100 miles of my house (South Florida). I tried May 2 and 28 as well. I checked Illinois and I don't see any seats there either. AAMC doesn't even have a search function to check for available seats; I have to individually click on each test center which takes forever!! I am willing to fly anywhere to take my MCAT...am I resigned to clicking each location? Or is there any shortcut to find an open seat? Gosh....I thought a month would be definitely enough time! I guess not 🙁

I'm in Miami and I jumped on a seat for the 28th at the Miami location just two days ago, after switching from May 2nd. You just have to be persistent. Anytime I was on my computer I had the AAMC map open and I literally would refresh it every 20 minutes or so. Been doing this for the past couple weeks until I got the date/time/place I wanted. Had to settle for coral springs on the 22nd at first, then coral springs on the 28th, then finally what I wanted... miami on the 28th (I think I funded AAMC for the next year just with my rescheduling). Also realize that within a month of any of the test dates is when people who are unprepared will start to drop.

PS - Don't get frustrated if a seat opens up and when you click on it you get an interesting prompt that says, "Slow down, you're going to fast for us." This is their nice way of saying someone reserved the seat before you did. Seriously... just keep trying within that 100 mile mark and you'll get something.

WOW... just awesome! Yea that was definitely it. Haha... too crazy. Well you can see just how much I wanted it.

It's really funny because after I received the confirmation I remember saying, "Whew, thank you to whoever the heck just let go of that seat." So... THANK YOU!

When did you reschedule for? I'll let you know how the test goes... lol.

I'm thinking to fly to the city the night before, sleep in a hotel, write my exam, and fly back. Cost would be around $525 (Air $200, Hotel $50, Car $50, and MCAT $225). Should I hold out for a chance at an exam in South Florida or should i have something definite in my hand and register elsewhere? I'm afraid of being 100% prepared and ready, and not being able to write the exam. I mean, is md2be's experience pretty common (getting a seat at the last minute)?

A week ago I couldn't find a seat from May to June anywhere in Florida (I'm from central florida) and one day at my school library I hopelessly checked for a seat for May 22nd and my heart stopped when, instead of saying "no seats Available", it said "reserve seat". Whipped out the Visa and never wasted a second. It's possible, keep checking. I didn't even check it persistently. I checked it once, then two days later and I got me a seat. It just seems like a waste of money having to fly out for a test but I guess what you can do is reserve for that out-of-state spot and just keep updating to see if a seat opens up in Florida. Good luck

Free seats open up when you are 2 weeks away from the exam date. (this is the very latest a test taker can change exams and pay only 55 dollars to change either the location and/or the test date. Good luck getting a spot. If you want May 22nd spot, try persistantly on May 8th and a few days before then too.

Haha funny how it all works. I moved it to June 18th. My finals let out on the 13th of may, i wanted more than 2 weeks before my actual exam. It seemed too soon!

There seems to always be seats available around where I live. Plus, my testing center is only a mile away from my house. That's insane that you guys fly into other cities to take the MCAT. OP, I hope everything works out for you. GL!

lol... yea actually my friend jumped on it when I told him.

But to the OP, just trying to show you... open seats will pop up. You don't need to leave the state.

Yep...Massachussets was filled up all the way till mid-July when I last looked. I ended up registering in New Hampshire for the 5/28 test...
