I just had a question. Is shadowing a major part of the dental application process? Because I work and am a full time student so I don't really get much of any kind of time to shadow. The only time I see a dentist at work is when I go to visit my own dentist..lol.. Anyways I have to work for to pay for school. I just wanted to know if not shadowing would hurt me in any way?

I cant think of a school that could care less if you have no hours, most want to see that you've done it so they can be assured that you know what your getting into and some schools have a minimum requirement for how many hours they require. A lot of us work and goto school fulltime too, you just got to find out when you'll have an afternoon or morning free and squeeze in a session during those times, good luck

Shadowing is one of those unofficial requirements, most schools assume that you have done at one point or another. How do you know if you like dentistry without getting some sort of exposure to it (aside from sitting in the patients chair of course). 😉
