Just curious what people are doing about snail mail correspondence during the Christmas break. For example I live in a college dorm in which we won’t have access to mail for a month during the break.

I’m a little worried I might miss something important. Anyone else deal with this or traveling for a while and no access to snail mail. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

You can go to the post office and have them forward your mail from one specific date to another. You can even fill out the form online. Go to www.usps.gov then go to the Change Address tab in the red bar at the top of the page. You'll see a place where it says a start date and a temp move date (end date). Just fill this form out and that should work for you. If you are hesitant, call the University's post office. They really have nothing to do with your mail, since the mailman brings the mail directly from the post office to the dorm, but they may know of a better way than I do for your school. I used to be an RA and this is how we told our girls to forward any mail.

Thanks for the reply. I thought about the forwarding option but I've been told that is a good way to lose mail. Anyway I may give it a try, I suppose I can call the schools and inquire about my status.

I've forwarded my mail several times, and lost mail each time, including birthday cards with money in them. This would not be a good idea, since the USPS isn't very reliable.

Medical schools will be closed during the holidays you are out of town, so you won't recieve anything unless it was sent the day or two before you left.

I would suggest leaving a mail key with someone in town so they can check for you, or just recieve the mail when you return and explain that you were out of town for the holidays. I'm sure this situation has occured before for them.
