Noise during DAT

Just a heads up, something that really distracted me the first time I took the DAT was the sound of people typing throughout the entire exam. Just wanted you to be aware of that because I wasn't and it really affected my concentration.

Ya know, I was afraid of this happening, I hate annoying sounds when doing tests and stuff like that and incredibly enough my room was full of people and no one was typing, so weird, I am glad it was like that. The only annoying thing was people constantly coming in and the proctor opening the door to check on us.

Pick up a pair of 33 NRR ear plugs.

At my testing center big noise canceling head phones were provided. I couldn't hear a single noise.

my earplugs alone weren't enough, and their headphones alone weren't enough, but with both I couldn't hear ANY noises. it was awesome.

I think a lot of times it depends on the person. I couldn't hear a thing with the headphones on that they provided. Never hurts to bring a pair of earplugs with you. There will be other people taking various test and they may be typing the whole time which I'm sure can get annoying.

I brought earplugs, and they also provided big headphones. However, I had to keep taking the headphones on and off because they squished my ears and hurt! I'm a fairly petite girl, so I don't know how in the world those things could have fit a guy. 🙂

My headphones were also pretty tight, by the time reading rolled around I had to readjust them bc they were pushing on my ears quite a bit. However, I think the complete noise cancellation made it worth it bc pretty much my whole testing center was full.

This is all good to hear since I am retaking this saturday and the last time I took it I was heavily distracted by the extra noise. I will be bringing ear plugs and use the headphones. Thanx for all the replies 🙂

Before entering to the testing room they gave me a paper with the testing center rules, one of the rules were that no commercial earplugs were allowed. So check beforehand with your testing center before bringing them in.

Yea, I am going to grab a pair of earplugs. If its really loud I think I will remove the headset during PAT and then use it during reading when I need the concentration. I wore glasses last time with the headset and really bad pain behind the ears when I got to the reading.

Check with your testing center for sure. They told me my own earplugs were fine as long as they are the soft squishy kind and I was willing to squish them to show it if needed.
