Non ACGME vs ACGME

Anyone have any info as to what potential problems and difficulties can come off doing residency in a non-ACGME program?

The biggest one, at least for General Surgery, is that you can't be board certified if you don't graduate from an ACGME accredited or Royal College (C) residency program.

So what do happen to non ACGME programs? What are the chances of one getting accredited with the passage of time?
What is the benefit for a hospital to have people join a non ACGME program?
