Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew whether a past 3 credit course that I took would be factored into my GPA by AAMC? This course affects my GPA on my official transcript but it does not count toward any of my graduation credits.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think the AAMC counts every course from every college you've ever attended.

So, yes it will affect your cGPA.

By "non credit" course, do you mean that it just isn't a required course for your major? If so, yes it still gets factored into your GPA.... unless I'm not understanding your question

By non-credit I mean my specific college at my university does not allow me to use this course's credit towards my graduation, but on my official transcript the grade I received does factor into my overall GPA. (Other colleges at my university do allow this course's credits towards graduation...)

not to hijack the thread but how do courses work that are pass fail? I have 5 hours of these stupid 1 semester hour courses that were pass fail, pretty much just filler classes to help me get to 15-16 credit hours a semester. They don't count towards my degree or graduation, so i don't even know why i took them

Pass-fail courses are kept separate and are not used in your GPA calculation. AMCAS will report the total number of credits taken P/F that were passed and the total number of credits taken P/F that were failed.

Ok that's good news, I was under the impression that AMCAS only factored in the courses in which you get credit for

Nope, but I think in the school profile that my school sends, it does mention that I don't get credit for that class. I wonder how meticulous these AAMC people are when checking the transcripts...

If the official transcripts list a number under credits, it will count toward your AMCAS GPA. If it lists 0 or "no credit" on the transcripts, it won't count. AMCAS doesn't care if the credits count toward your current, degree-conferring institution. They will include everything.

Phew! Good news. Was this from your own first hand experience by the way?

It will definitely count then. AMCAS doesn't care about what your college does with your GPA

Ok, much appreciated for the responses both of you 🙂
