I'm doing chemistry research on organometallics and it's not very related to much of medicine. I would like to know how medical schools look at non-medical related research. Are admission committees simply looking for some research experience or are they looking for research that exposes you to some aspect of medicine? Also, I might continue this research for my Master's thesis and I would like to know how schools would look at that.

Any research experience will be looked upon favorably! What ADCOMS really want to see is your dedication, your extent of involvement, and how knowledgeable you end up being at the end of your research experience.

Really? How so? I'm trying to bring a biological slant to my research but still primarily targeted towards synthesizing organometallic complexes.

Your area of research will be looked on favorably by adcomms.

If you would be doing this research for a masters thesis, presumably, you are forming a hypothesis, determining how to test it, analyzing the results, and producing potentially publishable work that adds to human knowledge. Having a biological slant isn't necessary. Investigating in a scholarly manner is necessary.

Research is research. It's what you get out of it is what's important.
