Rainy: How Long Are You In The Us? I Came Here When I Was 4 But I'm 21 Now. I Got A 19

I've been in the U.S. for 4 years and I got a 21 in reading.
I suggest that you read the paper really fast, and quickly make a summary of each parragraph (you may write down a few keywords). I found that this technique is helpful for finding the answers fairly quickly.

I'm a non-native as well and scored a 19. I just followed everyone's advice in terms of skimming through and trying to find the answers in the reading. Good luck!

I am a non- native speaker and I got a 21 in the reading comprehension part. I however, did not follow Kaplan's technique of skimming and jotting down notes. I just read the entire passage, took no notes, and answered the questions as they came. Mind you, I did not study for the verbal section at all during my entire time studying for the DAT. I found out that comprehensive reading is alot more effective than skimming. Comprehensive reading might take more time, but you remember exactly where the answer to each question is on the passage. You should try it because when I was using the skimming thechniques, I could not get above a 17 on the full length exams. I have been in the US for 14 years.

It is an obvious disadvantage to be a non-native speaker while taking the DAT, but this thread gives me inspiration and hope. 😀

(I sympathize with anyone who came from a country without a majority of Roman letters.)

I did better in other sections on the DAT, but I didnt do as well I thought I would on the RC section. On the other hand, I got A's in my undergrad English courses... it could have simply been a bad day on the RC section for me. I still feel I can do better, but no need to re-take the whole DAT just to improve that section. Also, English is my 3rd language, and been living in the US for 3 yrs.

Good Luck
