For those of you that come from non-ranked p/f schools and are applying for a competitive specialty, is taking step2 intime to include it in our apps extremely importants since there is less to evaluate us by. I am hoping to take it so that the results will not show before programs rank me. Also my step1 scores are not a problem. Any former experience is greatly appreciated. Also i was looking through an old edition of First Aid Match (3rd) and noticed a list of ranking the Academic factors important to residency directors and out of the 10 factors they list, students from my school will not have 7-8 of the evaluation factors because of the grading methods. Anyway heres the list in order of decreasing importance
1. Grades in specialty clerkship
2. Grades in specialty elective
3. Other clerkship grades
4. Class rank
5. Step 2
6. AOA
7. Elective grades
8. Step 1
9. Preclinical grades
10. Research activities

As you can see from the list students from p/f and non-ranked schools don't really have much to be evaluated from (at least by this lists) since only Step 1, possibly Step 2, research, and AOA (also since a couple schools don't have AOA that could be a problem as well. Any input from students in a similar situation with deciding when to take step 2 would be much appreciated.
