What is the general consensus on non-research publications in terms of residency applications? I surely wouldn't equate writing commentaries and book reviews to publishing original research, and I wouldn't group the two either on a CV, but are these writing projects worthwhile at all? What if they're in prestigious journals?

If you get anything published in NEJM, it's solid.

I don't think it can hurt, but if you go to less reputable journals, it will help you less and less.

Probably not as helpful as research pubs, but still better than no pubs.
