I need a letter from a professor of a non-science course. One professor that is willing to write me a letter is a professor of a psychology course I took called Brain and Behavior. This is a mandatory course for psychology majors. I would think that this course would be considered a “non-science” course since psychology is a social science. However, its subject matter is neuroscience so I’m apprehensive about submitting it. Does anyone know if medical schools will treat Brain and Behavior as a “non-science” course?

I too was a psych major who took a Brain and Behavior course. It was counted as non-science when my app was verified. I also got a letter from one of my psych profs to use as a non-science LOR.

I think the psych designation overrides the neuroscience course content. The schools will see that the letter was written by a Psychology Professor who happened to teach a Brain and Behavior course, not by a science teacher stuck in the psych building.

Generally social sciences are OK for non-science LORs. You could contact the specific schools and ask them if your given letter would fulfill their requirement.
