So, I have three potentials for non-science LOR that I would like some feedback on:
1) Technically had this professor for a biology department class, but it was a research/methodologies class. I have since been with him as a PI for about a year and a half. Does research/PI LOR count as non-science?
2) A physician I shadowed who is also my boss and has also been in the same Army reserves unit with me for 4 years. He is way high up in the ranks so I doubt he can actually attest to my military prowess, but he has at least seen me in my capacities there, I have shadowed him both Clinic and OR around 80 hours and he has been my supervisor for 2 years. Would this be a valuable non-science letter?
3) I have been out of the Reserves for 5 months and there was a change of command right as I got out. Due to this, the only contact information for anyone in my chain of command I have is for my former platoon Sergeant. Caveat: He was my platoon sergeant for only the final year of my TIS. Before he was promoted, I was his squad leader for 2 years, before that we were peers in the unit for a year, before that we went through the same basic training, lab tech school and even swore in on the same day in our senior year of high school. So, for most of our military time together, we were peers, for some of it I was his supervisor, and only at the end was he mine. I feel as though this letter would be a great addition to my application because a) my military service is recent and b) military activities are like two-thirds of my application....While I do intend on including this letter, would it work/function as a standalone for a non-science letter?
I have only taken 1 non-science class in the last 2 years, (a psychology class of 400 students) so that would be a useless faculty letter. I am currently in two humanities classes, but they would likely not be valuable letters (100 level gen-ed classes that I really have no investment in). I could likely get a letter from my instructor at my Army leadership class, but that was almost 2 years ago and still really isn't faculty or anything.
TL;DR - Will the any of the above three letters, in combination with 2 science letters, suffice as a non-science substitute? Should I send any combination of them/ What do I do? TYIA
