Hi all,

I'm currently compiling my LOR list and have a professor that I believe would write a strong non science LOR. She is currently in her 5th year as a Ph.D student and just accepted a position at a university as an assistant professor. I've had a few classes with her and have done very well. Would it be good to ask for a LOR from her or should I not because she is still technically a graduate student?

Thanks for the help!

It would probably be better to have someone that is/was faculty, but if you feel you can't get a good letter from anyone else, it's better than a bad/mediocre letter.

One of my most important LOR's was non-science, because that faculty member was involved in many campus activities as I was and I happened to take a course with them. A letter that actually says something about you is better than a vague, poor, or generic letter.

@redferrari Good point. I have done a little bit of exercise physiology research with her in the lab so that could contribute instead of just attesting to my work ethic and academics.
