non-science major, help!!!!
Started by stv2826
I am a bus/econ major and for sciences I took a year of😛hysics, gen chem, organic chem, biology all with labs. I took an upper division microbio class, and sat in on a biochemistry class. I also took research colloqiums (interesting but useless) as well as calc and statistics.

UCSB, I took gen chem sophmore yr., physics/ochem/bio junior year, and microbio this yr (senior yr). Are you planning on doing a non-science major?
This is my last semester as a mechanical engineering major in Berkeley. I didn't really thought about dental school before, so still have long way to go. I'm trying to finish all the pre-req in junior college (maybe SMC) and some upper divion courses in UCLA or nearby cal state.nothen2do said:UCSB, I took gen chem sophmore yr., physics/ochem/bio junior year, and microbio this yr (senior yr). Non science degree/ accepted to UCSF/ took physics @ a CC, took Bio, Chem, O-Chem, Genetics, Biochem, Neuro, Physiology, Cell Bio, Ecology, Bacteriology, and Parasitology at my University (state school outside Cali). I took many extra courses b/c I had to raise a bad GPA. I bombed Genetics and First semester O-Chem.
I got a degree in Psychology from UC Berkeley. I took all of my science pre-reqs at Berkeley (gen chem, biology, microbio, biochem, osteology, anatomy, physio, 1st half of physics and o-chem). The 2nd half of physics and o-chem I took at a community college after graduating. I was accepted at UCSF.
right now i'm second year econ major at UCI. i want to go to dental school and decided to change to a bio major. but right now i think i should just keep the econ major and just take the science classes and apply to dental school. i barely started taking my g-chem this year so i'll finish it by summer. i know i have to take a year of o-chem and physics, and some bio of some sort. do dental schools want you to take certain bio classes?

a year of bio, so normally the intro series at your school. Most likely to get into any upper division bio classes, you would need the intros anyways.

ooh, i get it. how much upper division bio classes are usually required? thanksnothen2do said:a year of bio, so normally the intro series at your school. Most likely to get into any upper division bio classes, you would need the intros anyways.

most schools don't require upper division. Of course there are always exceptions, I know that UW and UF require an additional year of bio (biochem, genetics...). My school only required one year, which was covered by my intro to bio courses

I took all of the required science courses which took me an extra year + summers. In addition, I took some highly recommended courses like Microbiology and Genetics. I also took helpful courses like Anatomy and Physiology I and II to get some basic knowledge before real school.
I will be self cramming biochemistry this summer.

Then, how long did it take you from graduation to the beginning of dental school?
