Non science major (more like health+business) with current rough numbers of: cGPA 3.53 BCPM 2.92 sGPA 3.18 and a diagnostic MCAT from last year without several of the prereqs of 23 (7,9,7).
Due to my university's requirements, I'll only be able to take the 2nd half of ochem to boost my science gpas and won't be able to retake any classes. If I get an A in it (got a B- in part 1) it will bump my BCPM up to a 3.00 and sGPA to a 3.26 or so. I've got plenty of relatively easy classes to take before graduation that will get my cumulative to a 3.63+.
I learned a lot about the MCAT from that the AAMC #3 last year and am feeling pretty good about getting 11+ on the VR now that I have a better idea of what to look for. I noticed that I felt rushed and didn't consider all of the options during the PS and BS sections. I also think I got lucky on some of the questions. I'll be able to spend the next 2 months focusing on the MCAT before the next semester starts in January where I'm going to have ochem 2 to finish my prereqs. I plan on taking the MCAT in April 🙂xf:30+) and submitting my apps on the 1st of June. I have started on my AMCAS and AACOMAS already so I can roll them over for next year and save some time.
I've shadowed a family practice DO in an underserved region for ~70 hours, have ~200 hours of leadership and service activities from an LDS mission and ~170 hours of patient contact during an internship consisting of medical assisting and administrative duties. I have no research experience. I spent a semester working at a world famous amusement park last year which was pretty fun and am currently the hiring manager at a fast food restaurant where I started working 10 years ago.
There is no instate med school for me so I would appreciate help in regards to what schools to consider applying to. I'd qualify for PNWU's regional preference but we'd prefer to not move after a year or two of preclinicals. We'd like to get out of the snow but that's not a dealbreaker. An acceptance is the goal!
I've considered the following DO schools: NSU, CCOM, AZCOM, NYCOM, LECOM-E&B and WesternU. I hadn't thought much about MD schools but since there is a chance of getting a 3.0, I'd like to put it on the table. If anyone has firsthand experience with MD schools that have taken BCPMs of 3.00 or <3.00, that would be great to hear.
