Hello everyone,

I am a non-trad (mid-twenties) who intends to apply this cycle. I took a few years off as an undergrad due to health issues that are now resolved. I'd appreciate input/advice on my list of schools--thanks everybody

My stats:
cGPA = 3.7
sGPA= 3.8
DAT= 21 AA/19 TS/no section under 18

I have several extracurriculars that I can speak passionately about. The ones that top the list are:
Varsity athlete all years of college
Two research positions (with one first author paper in a high impact factor journal/conference abstracts+poster presentations)
Volunteering in dental environments (100+ hours)
Substantial non-dental volunteering (200+ hours) and was philanthropy chairman for an organization

I really don't want to take another gap year (I'd like to get on with my education).

(I used stats from the 2015-2016 guide to come up with this)

My list:
Iowa (resident status)
Marquette
Loma Linda
Midwestern (IL and AZ)
Nova Scotia
Creighton
Temple
U. Michigan and Minnesota

Thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated. This is my first time through this process, and I would welcome additional suggestions for schools to apply to.

What kind of suggestions are you looking for? You look to be in pretty good shape.

I was generally hoping to get some thoughts and suggestions on if my schools are a good fit and if there are any others that you would recommend looking into. Thanks for the help!

Is there any particular reason you picked those schools? Anything in particular you're looking for?

About all I can offer on them is that I'd drop LL if you're not religious. And, though it's expensive, I was pretty positively impressed with Roseman when I interviewed.

Why not add schools that will grant you in-state tuition after the first year like Ohio State, Buffalo, UNLV, and VCU?

Good question rev_rend: I'm going off of the stats from last year and the 2013 Barron's guide the medical/dental schools. I'm looking for schools where I meet the avg. GPA and DAT scores for matriculants (if not exceed them). Money is also a bit of a factor.

Thanks for the heads up on LL; I dropped it, and this is exactly the info I'm looking for (didn't see the SDA affiliation in Barron's). Not seeing Roseman in the 2013 Barron's guide, but I'll look into it.

I like customx's suggestions--I will look into these as well.

Thanks for the help!

The ADEA guide is really helpful for this. It's good for identifying which schools are OOS-friendly, comparing costs, etc. I know it really helped me.

If you're interested in schools in the West, OHSU might be worth including. About 1/3 of the class is OOS and your stats are competitive. (They're better than what I got in with, though I had some other things going for me.) The nice thing about it is that they run so much later that if you are competitive, by the time they get to sending interview offers, a lot of others will have already committed to other schools.

sounds good--do you know if OHSU grants in state tuition after a year of residency? I can't seem to find this on their website...

They don't.

I think you have great schools except I would remove Temple.
