Hi everyone,

I'm in my mid-30s and looking to make a career change from finance to medicine. I’d really appreciate your input on whether I have a reasonable chance of getting into medical school this upcoming cycle and which schools might be realistic targets. I'm open to both MD and DO programs.

Background:
  • Degrees: Graduated in December 2015 with a B.S. in Accounting & Economics and an Masters in Accounting through a concurrent program. (I also have a CPA license.) Took biology and general chemistry with labs during undergrad.
  • Post-bacc: Completed Physics I & II, Organic Chemistry I & II (with labs), and Biochemistry through UNE.
  • GPA: sGPA: 3.9 | cGPA: 3.94 (undergrad) | Grad GPA: 3.86
  • MCAT: 513 (129/128/126/130) – taken March 2025
  • Clinical Volunteering: ~120 hours volunteering in a hospital
  • Work Experience: 10+ years in finance at well-known companies
  • Research: None
  • Florida resident
I know I'm a bit unconventional and not the most competitive on some metrics (like lack of research or clinical employment), but I’m hoping my academic record and life/work experience can help. I'd love advice on how to build a smart school list—especially with my non-traditional background and no research.

Thanks in advance!

You should accumulate another 30+hours of clinical volunteering before you submit your application since many schools screen at 150 hours.
Do you have any physician shadowing hours or non clinical volunteering?
