Okay, ladies - I'm hoping someone might have some ideas about this. I'm allergic to wool, and I'm going to be needing an interview suit (I hope!) this fall or next spring. So far, everywhere I have looked, the suits are either wool or wool blends - makes sense, it's a nice material, but unfortunately, I can't wear it. Does anyone know of any brand or store that makes nice non-wool suits? I don't want to wear one that fits badly and looks cheap just because I can't find one I'm not allergic to that's nicer!

ahhh, the wonders of polyester!!! there are tons of polyester suits out there!!!!! try macy's, nordstroms, limited, express! all have good quality suits that are made from polyester

You can never go wrong with Ann Taylor--sophisticated and classy without being too stuffy or expensive (they always have a good sales rack!)

Surprisingly, I found mine at United Colors of Benetton. They have both nice pant and skirt suits.

That's true....they also have GREAT outlets. I bought a blazer there once, original price $220, sale price....

*drumroll*

$12!

I'll try those - I've actually been looking at all of those places, and haven't seen anything that's completely free of wool, but maybe I'm just looking at the wrong suits!

Yeah, I just checked in my closet out of curiousity, and none of the 5-6 blazers/suits I own have any wool in them. Outside of the linen one and the Canadian brands, they were Benetton, Limited, and Express.

You may be having a bit of a hard time if you are looking at winter collections, for obvious reasons. You might have better luck in outlets, as they'd be sending the summer stuff there now, which wouldn't have wool. I also think that expensive suiting is more likely to have wool - think J Crew, Banana Republic, and the likes.

look harder missy! i found my suits at nordstrom (they have their anniversary sale going on right now!) and macy's. both are polyester.

What kind of price tag is on the suits you guys are getting? I just need an idea of how much I'll be looking to pay (and how much will be ripping me off)
Thanks!

i bought 2 suits for less than $150 each (i think one was...$115, but I had a $25 off coupon; the other was....$140?)

I have 3 suits and got each for $40. But I'm cheap and shop at the garment district in LA. Granted I had to spend a little time taking 1 of them in, but thats no big deal for me (and if I couldn't sew it would have only been 30 bucks or so at a tailor to have it fit to me).

If anyone else is cheap and lives within driving distance of LA and wants to know how to get there, feel free to PM me. They have mens suits too, but I don't know how much those run.

I had "material" questions as well when I was shopping, and so I looked at the most expensive suits at Dillard's...the suits I would have bought if I had that kind of money. They were all 100% polyester and fully lined. I used that to guide me while shopping at less expensive places.

WOW! Where do you live? When I was looking two years ago I couldn't find anything that WASN'T polyester (and I was looking for wool).

Try Overstock.com, JCPenney, Herberger's, and Nordstrom. TJMaxx and Target might be helpful, too.

I also like Victoria's Secret, the only drawback of course is you can only purchase their suits online.
I would stay away from buying suits you can't try on. The fit is the most important part of it, so unless there's a brand you use regularly and know it works well for you, I wouldn't buy a suit online. Now, going into a store and trying on a suit, and then buying it half-price online is a different matter - but with VS, you don't have that option, so I'd suggest not to buy their stuff.
