How do you become a scribe? Do I just walk in to a doctor's office/emergency department and ask if they need one? Also is it usually volunteer or paid? I googled all of this and it wasn't very clear.

I don't know a whole lot about scribing, but I think it depends on your area. Some of my friends who scribe found job listings on their local hospital website. I believe ScribeAmerica also lists openings. Anyone who's a scribe have more feedback on this?
Scribe here! It depends a lot on your area and whether or not there are any scribe companies. ScribeAmerica is a pretty good one. I applied online but you may have some luck going to hospitals and asking for the chief scribe on duty. Furthermore, one company may work with multiple hospitals in your area. That is something you'll learn when you apply and start hearing back. Be sure to check out other scribing companies as well and good luck!

I'm a scribe in an emergency department. Either look on job listing sites for scribe jobs or contact your career center if you are still in school. The position is paid albeit very little ($8-10) since people are taking the job for experience. A lot of companies require a contract of 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time, but I never had to sign such a thing so I'm not sure of the specifics. It requires training both in the classroom and in the clinical setting which cuts a good portion of the people out. The attrition rate is quite high but the experience is nice.
