I attend a Public Liberal Arts Colllege. It's not huge, and definitely not as magnificent as the top ranking Universities and Ivy League schools.

while searching MDapplicants I noticed that most of the people getting into the best Institutes across the USA have already come from similar high ranking undergrad institutions.

I was wondering if there are any known "success stories" of people from small town universities getting great scores and ending up in such schools.

Please let me know what your thoughts about this are.

Thanks!

Just as long as you are no graduating from a for-profit school, those often get a bad reputation, your success shouldn't be too limited. Just do as everyone else that wasn't lucky enough to get into a high ranking and or Ivy League school: Excellent grades, EC's, MCAT, etc. and you should do fine.

You can get into a medical school even if your school is not in the top100.

Just do well on the MCAT to show adcoms that you worked your butt off to earn your high GPA.

One of the disadvantages about coming from a relatively unknown institution, I would think, is the admission's officers' bias that the school may be less challenging than the big name schools (which may or may not be the case).

I think its just a natural prejudice that humans exercise unconsciously: by which I mean putting more stock in the brand name versus the unfamiliar.
