Hey all,
I'm looking at doing an externship in Asheville, NC next year, and I'm trying to decide what time of year to go. Any advice? 🙂
Allison

Fall in the NC mountains is gorgeous... folks come from really far away to see all the gorgeous fall foliage.

Summer is also great -- there are approximately 4 million summer camps in Brevard, NC which is about 45 minutes from Asheville. I think that says a lot for the climate. It can get hot during the day, but the mornings are lovely and cool.

So, my vote would be June or October. 🙂

If you end up going, make sure you check out the Biltmore Estate!

Actually, I'd avoid the summer. I spent a whole summer at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem....it was pretty nastily uncomfortable. I would try and walk my dog at lunch at it was miserable, hot, humid, sweaty...

Definitely fall - fall in the NC/VA mountains is absolutely GORGEOUS.

Winston summers and Asheville summers are two entirely different creatures. Asheville would be reasonably nice in the summer, as opposed to the Piedmont/Coastal parts of NC that get, as has already been noted, unreasonably warm and humid. That said, I agree with the general consensus that fall is the time to go. The trees will be changing color, the temperatures will be fantastic. All in all, it is my favorite season, and I'm from the mountains of NC.

Oops, forgot how far away Asheville was from W/S - sometimes geography isn't my strong point 😳. It's a beautiful place anyhow - I've only been to visit once.

Thanks, everyone- you guys are awesome! 🙂
