Hello Everyone 🙂

This is my first time posting a thread to this forum. Thanks to all who have posted info/advice in the past.

I’m not sure where I stand as a candidate; I’d appreciate any input you might have:
Average U.S. med school.
Step 1 scores are 238 (96).
Honors/High Pass throughout med school.
Unsure of my AOA status but was told that I'm a likely candidate.
LORs: Medicine, Ophtho Chair at my school and 1 “Big Wig” letter.
No research in med school, but plenty in undergrad, but no ophtho research.
No publications.

I'm applying to programs in NY, NJ, Philly, MD & DC and needed some advice regarding the quality of the programs in these states. If anyone can rank the following programs, even a partial list, it would be greatly appreciated:

NY (most of them): Nassau, North Shore-LIJ, Einstein, Bronx-Lebanon, NY MC Brooklyn&Queens, Columbia, Cornell, Mount Sinai, New York Eye and Ear, NYU, St. Luke’s/Roosevelt, St. Vincent’s, SUNY Downstate, NYMC (Valhalla)

NJ: UMDNJ

Philly: Temple, Penn, Hahnemann, Wills Eye

MD
: Hopkins, Maryland General, U of MD

DC: GW, Georgetown, Howard

Any thoughts on ANY of these programs (good or bad), would very be helpful.

Also, if anyone has an opinion as to which programs I might be a good candidate for, which ones are beyond my reach, and which ones I should stay away from.

Thanks! 🙄

Welcome to the forum. Most people apply to 30-40 programs, so you can basically shoot for whatever program you're interested in. Pick 10 top ranked programs and fill the remaining 20-30 with areas you'd like to live.

Your numbers are right on par with the average applicant who matches. Good luck!
