I'm not sure I posted this, but does anybody in northwest San Antonio know a dentist, any kind of dentist, who would be willing to allow an undergraduate student to shadow him/her? If so, how do I go about asking one if I can shadow? Do I have to mail a letter of interest? Make a phone call? Also, do I need to have BLS for Healthcare Providers before I can ask?

i would google random dentists, call them up, talk to office staff, introduce yourself and briefly explain how u want to apply to dental school in the future, and would like to shadow a dentist to gain some experience, and would it be possible to arrange a meeting with a doctor.

I find it that most of them are very willing to help out. Don't be shy.

i got a list of numbers from a phone book and called up at least ten offices and emailed some too. Two of them got back to me saying that they would welcome my help. Usually, I think it helps to substitute the word "shadowing" with "volunteering" or "help out"-- for FREE 🙂
