Northwestern Post Bacc

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's rumored to be one of the harder post-bac programs out there with many unhappy students. Kinda sucks since IL is my state of residence... That's just what I've heard though. Would be nice to hear from an actual student.

I love Chicago so it would be great if I could go to school there (you can see my priorities here! 🙄 )

But it seems to be a radio silence on this school from Members of the Forum...I wish I could find out if the program is reputable and comprehensive. 😉

Of course it's reputable and comprehensive! It's just a pain in the butt to get through from what I've heard.

Do they have a high number of people getting into Northwestern the next year?

I enrolled into the NWU post bac program. Two words...HATED IT!
They sold it as this amazing program for older students to go back to school. I was in a Chemistry class with about 130 students, most of which were undergrad 18-19 year olds, popping their gum, with some bits of vulgar language.
The professor conducted the entire lecture from a projecting computer, and went 20-30 minutes at a time without even sticking his head out from the computer to see if anyone had their hand up, or even awake.
I asked out of the program, and was completely unimpressed.
If I wanted to learn in a 130 student environment, I would have gone to state school for 90% less money.
SAY NO TO NWU

Does anyone have any tangible information about the Post-Bacc program at Northwestern? 😎

Hi, I am currently a post-bacc at Northwestern, 2nd quarter doing the 22 month curriculum.
I LOVE it. The professors are really approachable and the material is comprehensive. The exams and grading are fair (they curve a lot at the end). I am taking Chem and Physics and working 30 hours a week, quite doable. I also work at Children's Memorial, and they pay for most of my tuition ( this is true for many NWU affiliated employers I believe). However, there was a big drop in the number of students 2nd quarter (about 1/3) so our classes now are about 35 students and with about 2 undergrads from the day school. I think that the program is a great prep for medical school and the graduates of the program have been successful in getting into excellent med schools like Rush, Northwestern, U of CHicago, UIC and Loyola to name the local ones.
My classmates all seem to be satisfied (the ones that are still here at least). Classes are no more challenging than undergrad equivalent courses ( I went to U of Illinois UC), I think they are almost easier than the typical weed-out Freshman classes from college. Another plus, they have a students organization that you can get involved in, they bring in medical professionals and are beginning a student-physician mentor program.
If you have any questions about the program or course load, please feel free to contact me.

Interesting. That's a small class size for a program that has an open-enrollment component. Thanks for the info.
