I just got rejected by Northwestern and I have to admit my confidence has been a little shattered. I have a 3.7 gpa and a 38R mcat score from Washington University. Plenty of EC's and lor's. I just don't get it. Someone tell me something to make me feel better.

A 3.7 and a 38 does not guarantee interviews at every school, so don't expect it to. Chill out, I'm sure you applied to many schools and you are bound to be accepted into some, ones you'd probably like more than NU.

Did they reject you via email or snail mail?

snail mail

I have to say that this thread definitely makes me think I to am getting a straight up rejection. I have been complete since Aug 18, and still no word...and people complete after me are getting invites for interviews. I thought my high stats would at least give me a chance....however this thread makes me think i may be seeing some bad news from NW.

i wouldn't get too worried - your stats sound great, and if you think the rest of your application is okay, then you're probably just one of the MANY casualties in this really random process. if it makes you feel any better, georgetown was pretty quick in rejecting me, and I got interviews at (i think) better schools.

that sucks dcham!!! but i've seen your name on many schools in the interview thread so you should be all good!!! 👍 😀

Yeah, I'm kind of worried about the fact that all these people completed after me are getting interview invites. It's the same for NU, GW and Georgetown -- I was complete 1st week of August for all these schools and there's still no word from any of them. Maybe they just all forgot about me 🙁

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing ... and then I got a very thin envelope in the mail today from Georgetown. 😡 Oh well, they don't know what they are missing.

I haven't heard from NU lately, either.

And your stats are really good too. Oh man ... :scared:

Hey whatsup? Thanks for your post b/c it made me feel better about my NU rejection 🙁 . I have a 35S and 3.8 with loads of good ECs and LORs. So the fact that I am not even getting an interview is pretty mind boggling. Seeing your stats, which are comparable, does make me feel a lil better though. Fortunately, Im interviewing at Columbia, Einstein, and other schools so its not the end of the world. Gluck with the rest of this process! I am sure the universe will work itself out and ull get into a pimp med

holy crap guys 😱 . anyhow, as UCLAstudent said, think on the bright side: it's their loss for missing out on a great candidate. it could be that NU may have thought that you guys don't fit in with the rest of their student body, and hence, you would have a small chance of going there even if accepted. or it could also be that an adcom member had a particularly bad day when he/she saw your file

Yup, my first official rejection today too.

Well, look on the bright side, at least you have one less school to worry about now. Got it off your mind already. NOw just wait for the other schools who appreciate your stats and who you are and kick ass on some interviews 👍 😎 👍

Hey thanks for the words of encouragement. Good luck to all you guys too.

I doubt they forgot about you (straight 14's?!).

Hey Dsham: did you have an interview with Northwestern, or were you relieved of the process at their school after the secondary?

when did you guys submit your northwestern secondary? just trying to gauge when i should be getting my notice.

thanks.

I was complete on 8/11. Haven't heard anything from them since.

i also was rejected yesterday by snail mail from NU....i wasn't as suprised since my stats were weaker than your 3.8/37's or whatever, but still makes you wonder what NU is doing...best of luck to you all though. Northwestern doesn't know what they're missing. 😉

Hey there,
Don't feel so bad...just got my first rejection in the mail from Georgetown (but have a couple of interviews at better schools so i'm not so bummed about it). I swear this whole process is a crap shoot!!! You just gotta put yourself out there and give your best. That's all that you can do. Northwestern missed out on a GREAT applicant. 🙂 It's still early, so ANYTHING can happen between now and June....and i wish you the best!!

You're right, they didn't forget about me -- got Georgetown's rejection yesterday. **** it, though, GTown rejected me for undergrad too and I ended up going to a better school. But, yeah, I've been complete at NU since August 6th and still nothing ... waiting for the rejection to come in the mail today.

it's okay guys, that's why we apply to 15+ schools right?

I sent off my seconday on 7-28.

For those who were rejected from NU....did your status page become inaccessible just before your rejection arrived? I haven;t got my rejection letter yet, but I also can't seem to check my status. I called admissions and the lady said that I should hear from them "really soon". Looks like I'm going to be adding myself to that rejection thread soon! 🙁

Yes, if you can't access the page your rejection is imminent.

Wow, I feel evil having said that. 😳

Would it be annoying to call Feinberg and ask them why I've been complete for over a month and still no word? They are one of my top choices, so I'm really getting anxious.

Yeah, ask them the same question about me, too 😀

I don't know if I would call yet, it seems they have started clearing house so I would maybe wait a couple days.

Well, I finally broke down and called NU. The admissions secretary said that my application is still under review (no interview or reject yet) and I shouldn't worry because the review time varies depending on the applicant. I'm assuming this to mean I was put into the "maybe" pile during the first lookover and I'm just waiting for them to go through the maybes again before they decide. Waiting, waiting, waiting ...

has anyone advanced to an interview for northwestern? if so, what are some stats that they are looking for?

Can someone tell me what the essay topics are for the secondary? I haven't received a secondary application yet and when I do, I will only have 2 days to complete it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the long time it takes NU to respond after you're complete. I think it 3-4 months before I heard anything from them last year. Keep the faith. Good luck!

Were you accepted?

i got an interview, but my stats are decent at best. i have a 3.6/33P. Solid ECs, i'm guessing good recs? and i worked really hard on those essays cause i knew i needed to stand out somewhere. i'm also applying 2 years after college.

Hey VFrank, will you hold my hand till we find something out from NW? 🙂

I need some comfort 😛

You can do a search for a thread which posts the essay questions.. but here they are anyways..

Essay #1: We want to know more about how you came to the decision to pursue a career in medicine. If you believe your AMCAS application's "Personal Comments" essay answers this question, tell us anything more you'd like the Committee on Admissions to know about you and your career aspirations. Limit your response to 2000 characters.

Essay #2: Why do you want to attend Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine? In your answer to this question, include a direct response to the following points: Describe what you have learned about our collaborative curriculum (especially the PBL and PPS segments) and why it influenced you to apply. Also comment on what you feel you can contribute to these sessions.

In what ways does FSM's "organ-based" approach suit your learning style? How will this approach help you learn what you need to know to be a successful physician?

Comment on any other specific factors that prompted you to apply to Feinberg. (Limit your response to this space.)

Essay #3: Please select a), b), or c) to answer: a. If, by the time you enter medical school, you have not been (or, will not have been) enrolled as a full-time student in a formal education program for more than 6 months at any time, please list the dates below and describe what you did (or, will be doing) during your time away from formal education.

(there are part b and c, but i didn't copy the questions because they didn't apply to me... you can search for the other parts of this question)

Think I just got the ax. Was able to access my status page last night, but just tried this morning and I can't get in. This whole process is a roller coaster--the ups and downs are so close together....you never know what is coming round the bend.

omg, I just accessed it this morning and all was good, and I tried now after this post and couldn't get in 😱 ...had a feeling it was coming though....oh sigh; how miserable. 🙁

same here. I was able to access my status page this morning, then I read some of the posts and decided to try it once more. It says that my ID and last name combo weren't valid. I think rejection is inevitable....

These posts just made me check again. I am so thankful that mine still works. Hang in there, guys, and take everything in stride.

When were you guys complete? All of my materials were submitted 8/23, so I'm afraid something is imminent.... :scared:

Complete 8/9.

Yo NU is worthless so dont even worry about it. they clearly cant recognize good applicants when they see them. i am definitely over it and looking to move on with this process.

1) NU is a great top 20 school with arguably the best location in the country

2) they can't interview everyone (nor can other schools)

3) there's something called hpme - a quarter of the class is already filled

:luck: lesson: don't expect anything in this crazy process :luck:

I agree. Don't be bitter just because you didn't get in (I'm not be snotty -- I haven't gotten an interview either). By the way, is HPME really a quarter of the class?

i'm in the same boat as you vfrank...complete 8/6 and nothing yet.

Don't worry, I was complete since August 11 and just had this can't-access-web-page problem today..I'm sure in your case they're still just reviewing your file. 😳

what is HPME?

Honors Program in Medical Education. It's the seven-year BA/MD program with NU's undergrad. By the way, you have persmission to hate all HPMEs because they don't have to take the MCAT and they only have to keep a 2.5 GPA in undergrad.

thought we decided to tone down the bitterness 😉

anyway they have a higher gpa requirement for BCPM, so it's not that easy

You're one of THEM, aren't you?!?!

approx 40 out of approx 170 total plus or minus 10 for each of those values depending on the year
