Does Feinberg look at every secondary application or will they just set an arbitrary GPA and MCAT cutoff for applications that are read?

Not quite sure if it's arbitrary ...

Just wanted to let you all know, I got my interview two weeks ago. My application was complete on around August 10, and I got an interview about two weeks after. My GPA is 3.85 and my MCAT score is 31. Hope this helps someone!!!

Umm, it helps me feel like crap that I haven't gotten one yet
My scores are almost identical to yours, 3.8 and a 31. I was complete on aug 11. I guess your secondary essay were better than mine 😛

I just got the ax this afternoon. I was expecting it though, I couldn't access my status page for the past 5 days. At any rate, I had a 32O, 3.90 GPA (3.95 BCPM), I'm assuming good LORs and plenty of EC. Whatever, whatever 😕

Do you really wanna be 200k+ in debt after med school?

Chin up, dude.

Do you guys think one of the reasons my application is being reviewed so slowly is because I'm an Northwestern undergrad? I mean, I've been complete for five weeks, I can still access my status page, and I haven't heard anything either way -- and none of my NU friends have heard anything either. I'm thinking maybe it's because basically every NU premed undergrad applies to NU medical school, so maybe they have a seperate (perhaps more rigorous) screening process for us because we are so many ... ???
Anyone have any thoughts?

If anything, I think you would be at an advantage. Especially since the adcoms probably know how rigorous the curriculum at NU is. Its a crapshoot though. Just wait it out. You are in a better position than most with your app still being active and 42 on your MCATs. Good luck.

it could be possible. i sent mine in around the same time you did, and i'm still waiting. i know someone at U of I who sent in his application around the same time i did, and he already has an interview. do you still have the access status page website? i think i deleted it. thanks!

edit: OOOOO i found the website and i can still access it....big deep breaths 👍

complete since 8/20 and i've heard nothing. it's so irritating! either interview me or reject me. i've been complete at umich for only like a week, and i've already gotten an interview invite. if only every school were that fast. i suppose that's only good for people who apply early, though.

what i don't get is all of you with amazing stats getting rejected. that scares me, because my stats are not amazing like that.

oh well, good luck to everyone waiting.

For those of you eagerly awaiting contact from NU.... don't give up hope. I did not even get an interview offer from them until mid-October and here I am. Unfortunately, you have a slightly tougher hill to climb than in previous years... the class of 2009 has the largest HPME contingent in the history of the program (nearly 60). The school has cut back enrollment in the program in the future, but that doesn't really help for this year.

Keep you head up, and best of luck.

Any questions about NU, feel free to PM me.

I'm also a NU undergrad. I don't think being from Northwestern has anything to do with their decision. It only took them two weeks to review my application. Sorry you have to wait so long and good luck!

I have an interview at Northwestern with a 33, 3.7, very few EC's. Seems to be a crapshoot like everyone says.

How do you know you are complete?

According to their website, they have received my supp., fee and letters for several weeks. However, they never say I am complete. Could I just assume my file is complete?

Thanks. 🙂

AXED, can't access the status page as of this morning. 3.8, 31. Absolutely not love from chicago schools so far. Good luck everyone.

sorry to hear that. i'm still waitinggggggggg.................................... complete since 8/6. 😕

Sorry about the rejection. I just checked my status and am still safe, so far.

Can't log-in as of this morning... Looks like Feinberg has given me the boot. I'm now waiting for the "official" news to arrive in the mail. 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

I just got rejected by Northwestern and I have to admit my confidence has been a little shattered. I have a 3.7 gpa and a 38R mcat score from Washington University. Plenty of EC's and lor's. I just don't get it. Someone tell me something to make me feel better.

well, i see that you have a plethora of other interviews at great schools, so i guess you can tell NU to suck it

So it's for sure that you are rejected if you can't access your application page?

Arb said:

Not for sure, BUT everyone else that wasn't able to log on got rejected. This was my first OFFICIAL rejection too. Eases me into the other ones I will get down the line.

Everyone says how random this process can be.

Think about it...Several thousand people applying for about 150 spaces. SO many great candidates get thrown out for no reason other than that there are too many to interview. They probably just throw their hands in the air and say lets get rid of this person because it is time for lunch and we don't have time to further consider whether or not we like him/her. Even with a one hour interview, can you honestly say for sure that a person would make a better doctor than another? How do you compare people you know little about other than what you can get out of an essay or two? The answer is that you can't, so they make a quick decision for no good reason because they have to move on and don't look back on it. I gaurantee you most if not all of these schools could at the last minute throw out all of the people they would have accepted, take 150 other people, and have just as good or pehaps even better class afterwards.

There are some non random reasons to get rid of great applicants also. An ideal applicant at a particular school will fit the schools mission. Although a student might have stellar grades, test scores, recommendations, activities, and seem likely to make a great doctor, if you stated that you are adamant about treating patients and the school has a desire to send their students into research, what use are you to them?

I have a 3.9 gpa and 35 mcat, as well as some pretty unique experiences, and I got rejected from Norwestern to (as well as Mayo and U Chicago). I know it can be discouraging, but that is the way it is. Once I got my next interview (that's two so far) I felt a lot better, and you will to.

i would just like to say that all the logical posts so far are good, and of course they are because they are logical and prolly true......but one someone got rejected w.out interview, they just want to hear something like, "aw they lost out" or "that school doesnt know what its doing" or "what the hell!?!", and of course they know that schools cant interview every good applicant and that they will get interviews elsewhere, but i know i prefer i pat on the back more than "well, schools cant interview everyone the blah blah.." just my two cents.

i just got an interview today! woohoo! you would all hate me if you knew my stats. well, they're in that link anyway, so i got a 30 on the MCAT and have a 3.63 GPA (3.73 BCPM). i also have very average ECs. i wonder what i did to get this interview. so very weird...

to all others with interviews, if you have stats like mine, what did you do in your app to make you stand out?

Congrats on the interview. There must be something about your app that really sets it apart. I've been complete for almost 2 months now... I'm fully expecting a rejection. I might call them tomorrow just to see what's up.

If you call, can you let us know what they say?! Thanks

Hey, that's a day before I was complete. So I guess I can expect to recieve one tomorrow

I have read a lot of posts where NU purges their cyber system before sending out rejection letters. What about interviews? Does their system change if you get one? Does it ever change BEFORE you get one? If we are going to play Northwestern Roulette, there might as well be some perks. I have been stuck in a holding pattern for what feels like forever. Yes, I can still access my information, but is there any reason to keep checking?

Is anyone able to access NU status page right now? I'm not sure if I just got axed. It pops an error that the data source did not establish a connection or some such nonsense. It would seem weird that someone is handing out rejections at 1 a.m., (considering I just checked an hour ago and could get in).

Anyone else having this problem?

Mine still works. Still haven't heard anything.

Nevermind... false alarm. It is working again. :scared:

God, I really, really hate this.

bump

Has anyone heard from Northwestern recently? If so, when were you complete? Seems like they should be sending out another round of notifications (interview, reject, etc.) soon.

I have been complete for almost about three weeks (9/24) and I have not heard anything. I am really impatient, and reading the posts on this board is making me very paranoid. Some people got a response within two weeks and others like six weeks. It looks like I am going to be 6+ or nothing at all. After receiving a vandy interview and mayo phone interview, I haven't been hearing a lot from other schools, so I am guessing I am on hold...probably for a very very very long long time +pissed+.

GOBUCKY! (I should change my screen name cuz Bucky (U of Wisc) ain't showing me love also...AND THEY HAVE AUTOMATIC INTERVIEWS!)

I've been complete since 9/2 and STILL have not heard a thing. Two friends were complete around the same time (maybe a tad earlier) with almost identical stats and they both got interviews a few weeks ago. What the hell is going on? Part of me doesn't even want to interview there because of the "group work" part of the interview...

Alright, no one here can complain. I've been complete since AUGUST 6th!!! And still nothing. I called them about three weeks ago asking my status and they said they can't tell me anything. Should I call?

Just an FYI, I was complete there for almost seven weeks before they gave me an interview invite. I checked my status page every few days and it was always working. Over eight weeks after I sent the application they emailed me the interview invite. C'mon guys, don't freak out after one week.

How about ten weeks?

NU was actually my most favorite interview because of the group work. My two fellow interviewees were awesome people and it was really interesting to hear other people's responses. It made me think though that we all come across about the same in an interview situation (unless there are serious problems). I guess seasoned itnerviewers can tell the difference. Anyways, it was a really good experience.

Thanks, RunMimi, that's good to know!

VFrank, I definitely feel your pain! I have been complete since 8/11 but still no news...

I've been complete since 8/3, but no news, yet.

I beat all of you. i've been done since 7/31, and still nuthin

voting yes for the crapshoot.
complete 8/3 rejected 9/17. 3.7/39Q
glad I applied to more than 3 schools like I was planning originally! lol

To all of you who are complete and waiting--hang in there. They are probably just waiting for the perfect moment to pop the big question, "will you interview with us?" I bet they looked at your applications and thought, these applicants are too special to interview on any ordinary interview day, we'll save them for a very special interview day, which is not for a few more wekks. I'm sure that is the reason for the delay. 😀
