Forgive me for posting a Step 1 related question here, but it pertain to Step 2 as well. I had posted it on the Step 1 forum but no one seems to know. So, I thought may be someone here might be able to help.

I was wondering if anyone has taken the Step 1 review course offered by North Western Review (a Lansing, MI, based exam prep company). If so did you feel that the material they cover is all that is needed for Step 1? What is your opinion about it.

They offer Step 2 courses as well. If you took that one, please feel free to share your comments as well.

Thank you so much!

Hi,

A few of my friends took Northwester prep course for COMLEX and none of them had anything good to say...

I would highly recommend that you avoid this course....

I also took Boards Boot Camp, and similarly would recommend that you avoid that....

I take it you're preparing for the COMLEX... and while these courses have the benefit of teaching OMM, they have the significant down side of providing you with absolutely TERRIBLE review material, their books and learning resources are absolutely terrible!!!

My one friend stopped going to the review class midway and began using his KAPLAN notes (and was VERY HAPPY)

My other friend was complaining the whole way through the course because it was just crappy. So was originally planning on taking both USMLE AND COMLEX but dropped the USMLE because she felt under prepared.

My third friend ended up postponing her test, she didn't tell me why, but it's not a good sign....

I presonally would recommend the following
(1) Use the KAPLAN SELF STUDY Material
(2) Use one of the OMM review books (Savarese, etc)
(3) Use First Aid
(4) Use 2 Qbanks (no more, no less)
(5) Use the Goljan audio tapes and high yield notes...

This is a good framework, and I guess you could personalize it to fit your desires...

Hope that helps....

To add to that... if you do ever want a lecture for a particular subject or just in general, there are the Kaplan lectures available, which you can purchase or "search" the web for...

Thank you for the response. Actually, I am preparing for USMLE-Step1. So, you think I should not bother with the course. I started out with Kaplan (black books), but they just seem too much. So now I am using BRS, RR and HY. What do you think?

Thanks!
