My significant other is applying for a faculty position at Northwestern (to be 100% crystal clear, the big10 school in Evanston, IL). Still undecided on the primary department affiliation, either Geology or Environmental/Ecology engineering. How are those department perceived from an undergrad perspective?

Also, any of you can point me to a course catalog and course descriptions for Northwestern undergrads for this or prior years? At my undergrad (UChicago) they have them as PDF, but perhaps for Northwestern they are password protected? PM me -- I am a mid-career attending physician, with 25+ years on SDN, though recently somewhat inactive.

One of my late classmates/friends was a Geology major at NU. It was quite rigorous with tons of math, chemistry and physics. He said there were only six courses in the Geology dept that were required for the major, and he was only like one of a handful of graduates his year (I recall like about 2 or 3 undergraduates). It looks like there is no longer a Geology department but one called Earth, Environmental, and Planetary science in CAS. Anyway, this is second or third hand advice; I'm just spouting out reminiscences... of the 1970's and 1980s.

This'll help you much more:
