Hey all,

Just wondering if any of y'all have any input on Northwestern vs. Univ of Colorado. Maybe current students at either one of these schools? Know anyone who went to these schools? I'm really struggling between wanting to return to Colorado (I miss it!) and it having the lower price, etc. and also really having loved Northwestern there, knowing most there like it, but not sure about the winter and not sure about the price. Is Northwestern that much better of a school? Thanks!

Well...I'm absolutely positively not biased or anything😀....So my unbiased opinion is that you should come to Northwestern. Hehe... 😀

On a more serious note....I think its always tough to decide between home and cheaper tuition over another school. If I were in your shoes and I had gotten into UCI or UCDavis or SanDiego...I'd probably have a tough time deciding as well.

Hopefully it will all become clearer after second look!

As far students go. I have several friends at UCHSC and they all really like it. Good luck with your decision.

For my sake, please pick Colorado. Colorado rejected me, but I am on the waitlist at Northwestern. If you could free up a spot for me, I would be most grateful. Besides, think of all the skiing/boarding you would miss if you were in Chicago.

Hey UCLAMAN...thanks for the "unbiased" opinion 😉 See you at Second Look Weekend 😀 Are you staying with a host, or don't you have a friend that goes to NW?

wyo, thanks for the input from friends.

nw7, while I have your best interests at heart as well 😉 and I know skiing might be an interesting undertaking in chicago...I guess I'll have to see once I visit. Best of luck to you....I've heard that if you're on the waitlist at NW, you have a pretty good chance of getting in. Just CALL them every day! Make sure you tell them how much you want to get it. I have a friend who made it that way last year.

These are my two top choices also, but I am not so lucky to be in your situation YET. Waitlist UC and STILL no letter from NW (I ask you is that fair?)

These schools are totally different based on curriculum and student population so it is difficult to offer firm advice.

The best way to decide between the two is to make a prioritized list about what is important in your medical education.
PBL vs. Lecture/lecture/lecture
Anatomy in 2.5 months vs. 1 year
Cost
Location
How much free time students actually have to enjoy the mountains/Lake Michigan?
Etc.

My opinion after seeing both: I liked the NW student and hospital vibe best. (And I work at UCHSC so that is saying a lot.) Also, I am a former New Yorker and often miss the city life so NW was up my alley and it was not winter when I went.

That?s my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

I have heard from students at UCHSC that if you really want to, you can ski pretty much all winter long, with people getting in 30+ days each season.

I think that at pretty much any med school, you'll have time to do the things you want to do, if you can learn without being in lecture every day. This might be harder to do though it you're in a school with a big PBL curriculum or lots of small group stuff, where you HAVE to bring contributions to the group every time you meet (which means more out-of-class work). Anybody else thinking along these same lines?
