I know i've read all that stuff. I meant for any additional information like what students thought about it and that kind of stuff.
i've gotten several pm's from applicants who want to know more about pbl and pps. i'm more than happy to answer questions about the curriculum and my thoughts on it. but it would help if you guys had specific questions about pbl and pps rather than giving me the questions from the secondary and having me answer them.
personally, i like pbl...i think it gives a clinical perspective on all the basic science you learn during first year. pbl is not a replacement for lecture...i think there is a notion on this board that a school is either a "pbl" school or a "lecture/traditional" school. i dont think this is a correct view. think of pbl as a supplement to lecture. i think there are only a few programs that have pbl as the sole form of learning. personally i think it would be difficult for me to learn solely from pbl. but as a supplement i think it is great. i cant speak for everyone in my class as i am sure there are people who are not fans of pbl so this is just one man's thoughts on it.
pps is the afternoon curriculum and it is the touchy feely side of medicine. you meet with mock patients, learn to talk about sensitive subjects, learn physical exam skills, talk about ethnic differences in medicine, talk about end of life issues, etc. etc. i also like the afternoon curriculum because it covers the emotional aspects of medicine.
it would help if people had more specific questions. i'm not gonna lie and say everyone loves pbl and pps, but at the same time i dont know anyone who is adamantly opposed to pbl and pps at our school. personally, i like the two aspects of our curriculum.
