not a rejection, a deferral

hi everyone. i just got word that my application has been deferred. baylor was my top 1 bc of the hybrid format they offered. i really messed up my gpa 2015-2016 1.97 as i was fulltime on paper but never had tome to go to school as i had 3 part time jobs to make rent. eventually was so broke i joined the military. reapplied to school to finish my undergrad in exercise science while active. since then a lot of the prerequisites i failed were repeated and passed with a's and b's. my gre is 305. i have 50 obs hours. currently working in IT but was an active CPT while in the military. yeah so ptcas calcualted my gpa to like 2.90 bc of those 2 semesters full of F's.

the email said to work on strengthening my application and its like.. how? i literally retook those courses naturally to get my degree and im finishing up small prereqs like med term and hgd psych.. i even took chem ii and physics ii this past summer and got a's. it a moment where i feel defeated for sure rn.

i know no one can tell me if ill get accepted so more so a vent but dang. kinda tough to swallow, but im tryna see the bright side that its not a clear no right now. i know for sure i can get more obs hours and finish these last 2 prereqs with some a's

I'm sorry to hear about your deferred application, but it sounds like there is still hope since you weren't rejected. It seems like you had some courses in progress while applying, so if you did well in those, that will help you in the future. With a lower GPA, schools are less willing to admit someone with pre-reqs in progress, but if those A's go on your transcript, that will help. As for strengthening your application, I would get more than 50 hours and make sure you have more than one setting. I would also make sure you're using your essays to tell your story and explain your journey to the admissions committee. Good luck!

Deferred isn't a great place to be, but I agree to build your hours and earn those A's in your current courses.
