Just wondering what some of you people had as a "back up" plan if your not accepted? Non-thesis masters? more schooling? work? or just study study study for the DAT?

I applied last year and when I did not get into my school of choice (UNC) I went back and am doing a BA in Chem which I will finish up this may. As for if I am not accepted this cycle?...I will probably try to quickly get into a Masters program somewhere as I have not taken the GRE. (On that note: does anyone know if the DAT can replace the GRE for some masters programs?)

If I am rejected this cycle, I'll take a few more advanced biology classes, study for and re-take the DAT, and work as a dental assistant. Come May, I'll reapply.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you're going to get into Nova for sure and probably UNC. It's September...definitely not time to start worrying about not getting in. Chill out, enjoy your last year of college and don't start worrying until next March/April. If you haven't gotten an acceptance by then, you have my permission to soil yourself.

Its never a bad thing to have a back-up plan. I'm currently enjoying my back-up from last year's application cycle. If things don't start shaping up here pretty soon, I'm enrolling in a dental assistant program so that once I get my BS in May I can start working in an office. I figure its better than getting a masters that I don't need nor want. And I'll be studying for the DAT again of course. Lets all hope we don't have to use our back-up plans. Good luck!

If I don't get accepted to any of my 5 schools, I'll go back and do some non-thesis graduate schooling full time. Most likely I will not be working. Retake the DAT and reapply much sooner this time.

Apply again!! Boston has a special 1 yr long masters program in Oral Science. It seems to be more geared towards reapplicants since they know that not everyone gets in their first time. I don't think they require the DATs. So worse case scenario, you guys should check that out.

I heard that some schools reject you because you are currently working on a masters. They want to see you finish it up before they accept you. Who Knows?

If I don't get in I'm applying to med school 😉

Actually, I'll probably end up doing a SMP or a 1 year masters, maybe a 2nd B.S./B.A.

you're so getting in everywhere tho... you have like 4 interviews and your avatar indicates that you have an awesome personality... hehehe.

If I dont get in I am going to finish up my PhD in Chemistry. Then who knows what, apply again.

i'm currently living my back-up plan...

i didn't get in last year, so i finished my BS in may... and now i've been trying to find work in a research lab or dental office, but it's hard because they know i may be leaving in a year and so its not really worth their time to train someone to stick around for such a potentially short period of time. i'm also retaking the DAT because one school urged me to do so.

if i don't get in this year, i'll probably take an assisting or lab tech course. i was going to do that this year, but the program began before i finished my BS.
