To break up the flood of ERAS questions I thought I would propose an interesting topic. Lets hear the best medicine related movies.

My vote is for Article 99 with Kiefer Sutherland.

Article 99 was good, but I vote for "Something the Lord Made" - an HBO movie (available on DVD) about the development of the Blalock-Taussig shunt and the person (Vivien Thomas) who REALLY did all the work and deserved the credit. Fascinating stuff.

I second that....not alot of people have seen that movie, but it is one helluva film. From carpenter to "pediatric CV surgeon"...put this one on your netflix list people.

Are you talking about The Doctor with William Hurt? If so, he's a cardiac surgeon that gets it. There are a few ENTs in the movie though. Anyway, that's my vote for best medical movie.

My vote is with "Something The Lord Made". Alan Rickman was sooo hunky in this movie with his Southern accent. I was in love instantly. This movie tells a great story too. I passed Dr. Thomas' portrait in the Blalock Building at JHU when I was up there for a conference. Longmeire and Cooley trained with Thomas/Blalock too.

Thomas' grandson was the first African-American to graduate from the Cardiothoracic fellowship program at JHU. I am sure that his grandfather was proud.

Great story.
