Not competitive enough...chances?

My gpa is pretty low.. I slacked off alot and have my senior year left which won't change it as much. My gpa is 3.2 with bio major and studio art minor, and my science gpa is only 3.18... I am studying for dat right now, and from looks of it I'm not quite sure if I can score 22+ on the sections. If I get 20 on the sections, do I have a chance? I have volunteered as an emt and also worked for a prosthdontist last year.

When is your DAT? If you have a few more weeks, you might be able to put yourself in a position to get above a 20. If you score around 20 on each section, I would say that your chances are rather low. Then you will want to bring up your gpa as much as possible during the next year, retake the dat, and if all else fails, consider a masters.

Is 20 on each section really not enough? 🙁

20 is certainly a solid score, but it's not enough to counter a 3.2 gpa. Your average matriculated student is sitting at a 3.5 - 3.6 gpa and 19 - 20 DAT. You'll certainly have a slim chance as long as you score a 20, but your odds won't be very good unless you score a couple points higher. If you absolutely must apply with those scores, apply broadly. If you want to be competitive, your outs are either killing your exam, or holding off a year to improve your gpa. Just remember that being a year behind isn't the end of the world.

Last year's matriculant average was just under 20, around 19.something. Given that figure, wouldn't be surprising that the average this year falls right at or just above 20. Plus, the average GPA last year was quite a bit higher than your current GPA. Aim for 22+ in most if not all sections. You can definitely do it.

My oGPa is similar to yours and I tried to make up for it with a high DAT score. So w/ your GPA you should aim for a 22 at least. Obviously the higher you can get the more competitive you will be.

And getting 20 or more for each section will increases your chances by a lot, just make sure your Academic Average comes out to be at least 22.
